Heads up about program changes

I don't know about that. Just need to remember that underlying everything is the need to get something I want, at the end of the day. For example I didn't want 3 tonnes of cat food tacos so I missed out on 3 million points.

...but surely your cat wouldn't knock back 3 tonnes of tucker which could always be seasoned with the taco mix for variety.

I'm sure if you asked nicely he'd even let you keep the points.

She doesn't like spicy food.;)

I do believe Mr Cat food had a plan which involved donating the cat food to local animal shelters. The way to look at such things is "I'm going to purchase some points at a below cost rate, oh and they are even throwing in a free tin of cat food".

The other thing is that they are always going to put on promotions on items, since it is a very limited few who will work the system like that. The majority will simply say "I need cat food, oh look I'll earn extra points if I go to woolies instead of coles, so I'll go to woolies since it's next door. Oh look, woolies is also selling tim tams at half price, I could go for a tim tam with coffee at arvo tea time".

You missed the taco reference. Adelaide social events have involved a fair bit of discussion around using taco mix. Maybe not 3 tonnes, but a significant quantity. I certainly think it was a great win to get all the points, but against that is getting something needed/wanted, which was the point of the example. And more generally about gaming loyalty programs.

It's $22 now, but some months ago it was $11. I used to choose this add-on all the time. Now I only choose it if I really want the SCs. (Which, after the latest changes, I don't anymore.)

That original $11 excluded the $5 food & beverage voucher, but at the $22 price it's still $11 more for just $5 additional value. And of course it doesn't cost Qantas/Jetstar $5 to supply that food. The cost might be half that and the rest is profit. Or customers forego all or some of the voucher because they're not hungry, so it's pure profit. Or customers end up selecting a more expensive meal and paying the rest in cash, which is again additional profit.

The bundle charge goes according to the distance. I payed $19 for MEL-ADL so $22 for MEL-SYD make sense.
No doubt JQ makes profit from the bundle but there are some good options to spend the voucher. I usually choose the Peroni & mixed nuts for $7.
I'm more bothered by the $17 CC surcharge. That's a huge rip-off IMO.

If I weren't flying J internationally (and if this isn't an April Fools' Joke), I'd be thinking about this rather than jumping through increasingly small hoops:

USD2200 for Star Alliance Gold.

$US2,200 for LTG. This probably deserves a thread of it's own, if it's for real.

However, I know nothing about how Star Alliance elite benefits are recognised across their partner network.

For extra $19 (on short flights) you get 1,000 QFF points, 10 SC, $5 f&b voucher and standard seat selection. It's not bad.

When I booked J* flights recently the cost of the Maxipack thing was related to the cost of the fare. The more discounted it was the greater the cost, ~$40 on one leg and ~$130 on the other to get full economy SC on both. Still worked our cheaper than QFd full economy.

It not LTG just *G for 12 months.

"Membership follows a one-year term, and starts from the moment of purchase."

US airways offer it from time to time as well.

No they are just giving you the option to buy up to include points and a cup of coffee and a seat selection in advance (that you can do for free at OLCI anyway). You are not getting anything extra compared to QF customers....

You would know this if you just gave them a try.

Are you replying to my post or boomy's post?

JQ runs a lot of gimmick sales and this is a real easy way to earn SCs and QFF Points. I am jealous but I don't want to step on JQ aircraft.

I wonder if QF would consider offering the opportunity to purchase a Starter plus on QF flights so we could earn an extra 1,000 QFF points and 10 SCs for $19? No? Why not? You can't play favourites with JQ customers only.

Here is an example at present on SYD-OOL.

Jetstar: Base price on sale $49 no extras. +$19 get's you 10sc and 1000 points, a choice of seat and a drink. want a bag? it's +$19. Total: $87

Qantas: current sale SYD-OOL . includes 1000 points and sc, a seat, a drink and snack and baggage. Total: $89

YAY!!!

Red Roo has clarified the question that I, JessicaTam and others have been asking:

I believe that mASAs booked before 27th March will earn at the current rate.
Those booked from today for flights before 1 July will earn at the current rate.
Those booked for flights after July 1 will earn at the new rate.

mASAs will not be able to be booked after 1 July but the online ASAs will.

This is just my understanding from the comments made by Red Roo, and reading of the recent emails and posts on the Heads up about program changes thread.

It will require further clarification to be sure.

Paging Red Roo to the white courtesy phone...

Red Roo's response: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ne-had-success-call-51720-72.html#post1020726

Now we have certainty. Might be able to pull together enough points to book another prior to 30/6 JASA :D.

Thank you Red Roo. Love your work ;)

So to clarify a final time:

Those mASAs booked before 29th March will earn at the current rate.
Those booked from (and including) 30th March to 30th June (for flights on/before 30 June) will earn at the current rate.
Those booked from (and including) 30th March to 30th June (for flights after July 1) will earn at the new rate.
NO booking availability after 1 July.

Get in before the ride is over

That's basically what MASAs where (if you remember my post from a few days ago). The extra "tax" was paid so we could earn points and SC. Obviously the $$ amount was higher though.

Well then as a starter, you'd better do lots of Woolies shopping, get some decent bonus offers, fill up your car at Caltex and buy some epiQure wines with nice bonus points then :D

I'm doing all that! Even the work shopping. It's just a little too much ground to cover before the end of June. Might just have to do one as a classic one day, just to try the A380 F.

Agreed 100%... take for example the humble coffee card (you know, the every 8th coffee is on us) type cards. There are way's to work those, for example a $3 small cappuccino earns 1 stamp, but so does a large $5 mocha. Sometimes they state what sort of coffee is the free-be, sometimes they don't... So it's possible to fill the card using nothing but $3 small caps, and then order the $5 large mocha as the free-be.

It's also possible to "do a coffee run for the office" and collect the stamps on your own card. (I earn loads of free coffees that way), and this is using a pretty simple rewards program of "your 8th coffee is on us"...

Basically if you have a rewards program, you expect there will be a few who will find the loopholes or the angles. The reality is however that the average user of said reward program is not going to be devious. They are going to diligently collect the stamp for every coffee they order, and when it comes to the free-be, they will order the same as they have always done.

Yep, the $3 refill (equal to a regular) at the BP Wild Bean Cafes. Except it's buy 4 get the 5th free. Girl always asks where's my refill mug when I'm getting the free coffee. Why would I do that when the regular is worth $4.50 and I have no washing up to do.

Book a JASA and put in a points upgrade request :)
This is one of the often forgotten benefits of ASA's over Classic Awards and will be missed :(

Red Roo if you're listening the ability to request a points upgrade from a Classic Award would go a long way to providing a little compensation

Wouldn't it be nice if we earned 1,000 QFF points after 01 July on the more expensive QF airfare? ;)

I think it gets worse for longer sectors especially international.
