I am off to the US in 2 weeks. QANTAS were $1200 more expensive than Cathay for an inferior J class product.

Are you telling me that you would be prepared to pay $1200 more just to keep Joyce in a job?

No, I am willing to pay $1,200 - and I do - to keep thousands of Australians in a job. Presuming you can afford it, it's sad that you don't feel the same way.

What I really can't stand are those hypocrites who bang on about QF needing to remain Australian, and to employ Australians to do everything - but who then whine about having to pay more to do it. The fact of life is that, if we want to keep certain industries in Australia, then we need to be prepared to pay a bit extra to do that. I'm quite prepared to pay a bit extra to keep Australians in jobs.

Sigh. It was the waiter in the DXB lounge. Accuracy is important, as is context - my point being that it's hard to call it a "buffet" when you can't fill your own plate!
 
And how about those of us who do a lot of flying on routes that Qantas does not service? I'm vastly worse off under the new system, and I don't consider what I was doing gaming the system. I fly QF (or very occasionally JQ) pretty much every time I'm flying on a route they service. If they don't fly the route, I choose a one world carrier. I've been loyal to Qantas, not gaming the system, and I'm a hell of a lot worse off.
People in your situation deserve some sympathy. Perhaps someone could explain why QF do not have codeshare arrangements for these routes. My impression when flying on Star Alliance is that they use codesharing more extensively.
 
You can't have it both ways by blaming those who utilise YUPP fares to get status, whilst you do something very similar flying around Asia with CX on their runs ex-MNL/TPE/BKK etc.

That is a little unfair.

In one of my earlier posts in this thread I did mention that I was one of the people who have taken advantage of cheap SCs on partner airlines in the past. I am not going to put that statement in each of my posts in this thread.

I think it is clear with these changes Qantas have targetted cheap SCs on partner airlines. Yes they could have gone about it differently but instead they tarnished everyone with the same brush. That makes no sense when you have someone travelling QF say SYD-SYD/BKK/HKG and then BA to LHR.
 
It's funny how they say it's about making earning points fairer, when those people who maximise use of credit cards and EDR's etc can earn points much easier than a flyer.

QF clearly does not want people to fly, they'd rather sell points to companies, it's much easier for them than doing their core business.

Next step.............sell the planes and become a virtual airline....no fuel or big staff costs then !!!..............just joking..................... I HOPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The golden rule in business is never disenfranchise the customer.
Five years ago I flew exclusively QF with BA & AA to fill in the gaps.
This time last year, I had 2 EY, 2 VA, 1 EI, 1 QFi and 1 QFd booking.
12 months later I have 16 SQ and 4 VA bookings with QF bookings consisting of JB HiFi vouchers, blender and kettle.

That is just not sustainable in the long term. You are rewarding inefficiency. You should be buying Australian because it's the best product ........
 
Did anyone notice the change that allow a classic redemption seat to be booked (domestic), down to TWO hours before departure and 4 hours for INTERNATIONAL?

I like how Red Roo gave us a 'heads up' about the changes knowing full well they would affect us frequent flyers the most. I feel like Qantas just took my house and gave me a tent to replace it.

If VA commenced status matching it would be on like Donkey Kong.

Whether the minority or the majority, I have better things to do than pouring my hard earned money on subsidisation exercises. Since Joyce grounded the fleet, I have gone BFOD which has saved me thousands, and QF has hardly ever been BFOD.

Similar QF SCs for OW routes it doesn't service ??

Not too difficult as there are only a few QFi routes left

But the interns would not have it in their IN tray; too complicated

'Simpler' to have a uniformly punitive formula

And trust us, it's fairer too !

My major beef is that the changes should apply only to new bookings for flights after July First as like many others I have booked flights in August on BA on the assumption status credits would be as at present.
It is too late for me to change back to Qantas now and I doubt I would anyway!
Is this the right way for Qantas to have handled the changes?
 
A more fair approach would be to give 50% less SCs for OW partners on routes that QFi do service and keep the same amount on routes they don't service.

I did raise this Q to Red Roo many pages back. Still no reply AFAIK.

Inherently unfair to punish existing OW bookings made / ticketed before 27th March IME

It's contrary to everything I know about good business (? legal) practices where retrospective application is a big NO.

Must be desperate at Mascot if some existing OW bookings could not be spared.

Who was the genius dishing out DSC offers then ?

Another group of rotating interns ?

Not sure how many time this will occur but what about a code share flight but operated on other OW metal?
 
It would be far batter if all loyalty programs would be more honest with their members and not trying to sell devaluations as being fairer, simpler, enhancement etc.

I hope Qantas survives this mess ? do not have a good feeling .

These various Qantas SC earning charts are far more complicated than the old distance based one. Wonder who came up with this ridiculous idea?

My understanding was that all existing bookings would be paid out under the conditions they were booked under.
