Upgrade from Economy to Business – Red Eye or day flight?

Oh, okay. I'll do that tomorrow.

Thanks very much for all the advice, everyone.

I managed to get an exit seat on the Red Eye, but it's a middle seat, so I'll be trying again closer to the travel date.

What are your flights? I'd be happy to look up Expert Flyer seat map and show you what seats are available. Are you familiar with the term "T-80"? (go and search the forum if not... ;))

Happy Birthday in advance. :)
Please let me know how you go with this.

I will, Red Roo. Thanks!

No worries - I'll be happy to share. The flight numbers are 568, 924, 925 and 571. And no, I'm not familiar with T-80 (love travelling, but rather new to Australia), but I'll make sure I check it out.

Cheers!

Need the dates, sorry... if you don't mind sharing. Also, check out the thread's where people post when they are travelling to see if any guesting spots may be available for you on those days.

Ah, okay. I usually choose my seat, but Silver doesn't really give you that much of an advantage. The flights out are on 12/04 and back on 15/04. No one stalk me, please.

Oh, yeah - that totally slipped my mind. I fly for work (although not even close to what you guys must be flying), but it's always in economy - and I only managed to tag along with my Gold co-workers once.

Enjoy your time in CNS... if you like Steak, can highly recommend the Water Bar and Grill at the Pier along the waterfront overlooking the Marina. And Salt House is a great place for an afternoon drink overlooking the Marina and inlet.

Also, there's no "U"-class fares available on your trans-con flights, which is why it reported that the Upgrade is not available (U is the Business fare bucket for Classic Awards, and the fare class for processing initial points-upgrades). As a Silver, unless more inventory is released to U class, there's probably not much chance of securing the upgrade.

For your return flight, SYD-PER.. there are U fares available on some of the other flights before and after yours... could you move onto those flights...?

Opps... just looked at that again... I mean... there is U fare available on 571... you should apply for the upgrade on that one and see what it says.

Middle seat in an exit row has me thinking the OP might be departing 00:05 on the 13th which would be a B738.

Oh wow, that's cool. I'll compare it to what's on Qantas' website and make sure I check T-80 as well. Thanks for taking the time - I appreciate it.

I don't really eat meat (complicated, I know), but I appreciate the advice. Hopefully they have a fish version which is equally amazing. Other suggestions welcome...

I think the redeye in J will be really disappointing for you. There is no meal service as such. I did a ASA in January in J from Kalgoorlie-Per-Mel. The meal on the 737 was excellent and I found the seat more comfortable than the A330-200.
I cant sleep sitting upright though.
You also might like to know that the ASA price in points and cash, Kalgoorlie to East is the same as Perth-East coast in my experience.

Rows 44/45 all taken for the flight out, and almost all free on the way back (it's only four days apart). I'll definitely be checking to make sure I don't miss out on any openings...

I might use the Invitation I have for the other leg anyway, as I'll be Gold soon after this flight, so I don't really need to save it for later...

Q for others: if polardabar secures an upgrade on SYD-PER sector, but is still Y on CNS-SYD, is access the QP in CNS possible before the CNS-SYD flight, based on being in J on SYD-PER sector?

If so, then you could use your Invitation for PER on the way over... a few drinks at the bar in the QP might help steel yourself (put you to 'sleep') for the Red-Eye in Y. ;)

Tha Fish (Tha Fish Restaurant in Cairns) is also at the Pier (Dining Directory | The Pier at the Marina)... haven't been to it for a while though, so don't have recommendation one way or another... there's plenty of seafood restaurants in Cairns along the Esplanade.

Thanks, I'll make sure I check it out and treat myself.

If you have any recommendations in general, please feel free to let me know (it's my first time up there). I was going to go to the Reef for a day trip and to the jungle the other, so I'll have a bit of time to go around town and enjoy a drink with a view...

I've been so busy lately I think I'll fall asleep waiting for boarding, hehe...

Also, I've started reading about ASA flights (had no idea, of course), but I need to get some miles before I go there. I'm planning to go east again next summer, so I hope I'll get some miles under my belt (flying to Europe etc)...

That's a good idea, kevrosmith. I hope the upgrade works that way - and that I get it.

Edit: Apologies about triple posting...
