Someone scored an upgrade during a phone call to Qantas. :grins: I should my birthday more often...

Any seat recommendations?

Q for others: if polardabar secures an upgrade on SYD-PER sector, but is still Y on CNS-SYD, is access the QP in CNS possible before the CNS-SYD flight, based on being in J on SYD-PER sector?

I'm still wondering if I'll be able to use the lounge in CNS with a business boarding pass for SYD–PER.

I don't think you will have access in CNS (I think this was discussed recently)...

Congratulations and well done... trust you will enjoy the experience.

Something has gone wrong with your image attachment of the seat map, though I did happen to see it before you edited the post...

It looks like the aircraft type and seat layout is this:

sydperseatmap.JPG

This is an international seat layout with MK1 angled lie flat seats. I've been on the transcon service on this seat layout and found that there was a lot of noise coming from the Galley between row 3 and 4. I'd be aiming for row 1 or 2 or 5 (6 starts getting close to Economy...). The black dots on the map also show the bassinet positions where infants may possibly be located.

You can also check out what Seat Guru has to suggest... SeatGuru Seat Map Qantas Airbus A330-200 (332) V3

Regarding QP access, while I often live by the philosophy, "It's always worth asking the question", sadly the Lounge (Dragons) in CNS are pretty strict on access to the QP in CNS, and so if it's not clear whether you have access, then I'd suggest they'd deny you on default.

The seat map you provided from Expert Flyer is different to the International Config, so it must have changed (as the intl config doesn't have a row 23 DEFG).

If that is the case, bonus!

The upgrade must be for the final sector SYD-PER... it's the one that U class available, and has the International class seat layout, including 23 DEFG, as you say.

No, none of the current QF 332's have the seats 23 DEFG.

Sorry, it was there and then it wasn't.

Thanks for the advice. I checked SeatGuru, but it only mentions the proximity of the galley in row 1 (rows 1 and 2 are unavailable to me anyway).

I'm not that fussed about CNS, but I'll do my best to enjoy SYD as much as possible.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Sorry... flitting between too many things at once. It's interesting though, as EF is showing a row 23 DEFG, but everything else lines up. I've seen this once or twice before where EF wasn't 100% accurate on the seat map.

Though it does also mention that 4A and 4K are among the worst to select... no window and proximity to Galley.. it gets a red mark.

Perhaps until T-80 at least anyway... ;)

From memory it's one of the older JQ 332's.

I wasn't aware any of them were back with QF yet (I know a couple of the newer spec 332's are back).

With the pic from the OP it is a Skybed seat, however EF must have a slight glitch currently if it is showing the 332 with 23 DEFG.

Enjoy your flight.

Personally I'd upgrade the redeye flight and try to get some decent sleep. I have trouble sleeping in economy, even in an exit row and especially in a middle seat!

I hope I can get a decent seat sometime later, or maybe try to upgrade the outgoing (red eye) flight as well. I don't have that many points, so I'm not sure if I'll have enough for another upgrade. Poor old me–I know...

I managed to get an exit seat on the Red Eye, but it's a middle seat, so I'll be trying again closer to the travel date.

Wipe that. It looks like I got kicked out from the Exit Row - I just checked my seats online and that one's blank.

Edit: Now it's a window ER seat all of a sudden...

Btw, what's the deal with dining? Do I get to enjoy the business-style meal? Do I have the ability to pre-register (I don't really eat meat)?

Cheers,
Polar

You can request a special meal, vegetarian for example, but pre-ordering from the menu is only available on international flights.

Oh okay. I have a vegetarian meal requested by default (got a beef burger way too many times), but I wanted to see if this was available.

Thanks.
