Hi everyone, the new poster anat0l again.

I don't have much, so I'll just post what I have. Sorry if I don't quite use all the "lingo"...still learning a bit here...

Background: Last time I flew QF before 2006 was 1997 (under the old system using km's). Naturally all the points expired, so Opening Balance of points and status credits for 2006 were both 0.

All flights flown in Discount Economy.

Predicted new balance after travel: 13925 points & 195 status credits (although I will soon have it all zapped to 0 status credits again after that. Oh well, at least I'm heading towards that Loyalty bonus...)

So what a year it has been:
  • I learnt how to fly QF again. And I'm glad. After years of MH with mum going overseas (only carrier to KUL), the service is better with QF.
  • Mining industry = lots of free flying, if you put yourself in the right places
  • I have a QFF account again!
  • First flight ever in a Dash 8. Wasn't that bad.
  • First time flying to WA. Would be a nice one over the Nullabour if I had a better camera that could shoot through a plane window.
  • QuickCheck-in kiosks and Online Check-in are great, but Bag Drops can suck, especially in Perth Airport!
  • Flights boarded via walking on tarmac: 8
  • Weight allowances that I've gotten away with: > 4 kg hand carry on a Dash 8 (all the time! What's the deal on carrying laptops - extra allowance?); 2 pieces of luggage checked in; total of 5 extra kgs checked in.
  • Number of mini wine glasses obtained off QF flights: 3
  • Bottles of mini wine collected off QF flights: 5 (3 consumed)
  • Everyone: if you do the Sudoku or Crossword, please take the magazine from the aircraft. Don't care if you chuck it out straight away, but I'd like a blank one to work on! :)
  • Invitations to Qantas Club: 1 in BNE (too short to give judgement)
  • Airports: GLT, ROK, SYD (T3), PER (T2), NTL, BNE (home!)...and soon to be ADL
  • Carriers: QF, JQ
  • Total Distance Flown: 11508 miles (~18413 kilometres)
  • Flights flown: 12

That's it for the year ... my Biggest ever in distance, not in segments ...

I made gold..yay.

Wont even keep silver next year though :(

While you may not qualify for silver, you should only step back to silver (unless they decide to keep you at gold)

Remember to plead your case strongly at renewal as it often works.

I don't think I'll even be able to do that my bookings for 2007 are likely to be:

1) HKG>BOM with CX, Discount Economy = 20 points
2) HKG>SYD>HKG with QF, Discount Economy = 60 Points (maybe three trips in the year)

So thats only 200 points. I may put in short hops between HKG and BKK too, but that wont get me over the 300...

Oh well, it will be fun while it lasts (until the next time)

Go for it.

I got Platinum renewal this year with only 260 SC. I gave them a 'truthful' rundown of my future travel and an explaination of why my travel was so low this year and they renewed me.

SYD-DUD on SJ
DUD-SYD a few days later.

No miles, no status points, just the pleasure of flying in economy forward of the wings for $99 each way plus taxes. Dunedin is a quaint airport, just one runway which doubles as a taxiway, and all around is deep green grass which must surely be grazed by the stock visible in adjacent paddocks once they shut flying down for the day. They have a jetway, but it's not in use, and the deckhands push a set of stairs up to the arriving aircraft.

I flew SJ SYD-DUD about 3 times last year, and every single time got fully checked over by Customs. Bags searched...swabbed wallet, cards, sunglasses, bag and phone.

DUD probably has the greatest Customs Officers to PAX ratio in the world.
They have 2 international flights a day most days - I can't imagine it to be a drug couriers central hub.

Sorry Guys didn't realise I was quoting such an old post.

The date looked pretty recent...except for the "2006" at the end.

There are other airports I have been to with even less international flights. IUE, for example, has just one commercial airline flight a week (AKL-IUE on a NZ 737-300). Most pax are Niueans, for Auckland has more Niueans living there than live on Niue.
