  • New airports visited: Port Vila, Bangkok, Istanbul, Porto, Lisbon, Catania, Bologna
  • New airlines flown: Thai, Turkish, Air France, Vueling
  • Best flight: BKK - IST (J) - TK
  • Like - all flights on time and service good.
  • No dislikes - oh yes, jet lag!

My stats for this year:
  • Number of flights: 19 (7 Business, 12 Economy)
  • New countries visited: 3, Taiwan, Lithuania, Latvia.
  • Shortest flight HEL - TLL.
  • Longest flight HKG - HEL
  • New airlines flown: Buzz
  • Best flight: HKG - HEL on AY (J)
  • The walk at HEL from the arrival gate at the non-Schengen part of HEL to the departure gate for the HEL - TLL flight took longer than the HEL - TLL flight!

Number of flights: 45 (8 Y, 35 J)
New countries: None
New airports: None
New airlines: None
New aircraft: A220-200 (QF), A320neo (ANA), A350-900 (CX)
Shortest flight: HND-TOY 262km/162.799mi
Longest flight: SYD-HKG 7392km/4593.176miles
Dislike: NRT's refusal to accept bags early despite CX's published early bag drop policy at said airport.
Like: QF cabin crew that go the extra mile
Best Flight: Toss-up between AKL-SYD in J (QF B738) and MEL-AKL in J (QF B738), but clearly not because of the hard product 😉

Milestones and Memorable Moments:
  • Hitting P1 for the first time
  • 3 x back-to-back AKL status runs requiring 14 flights in 4 days (there was method to the madness, but I wouldn't recommend this to others 😜)
  • Miraculously making it onto my 6am QF140 AKL-SYD after waking up at 5:31am  (and somehow not being the last person to board!! 😲). FA Chris was an absolute star!!
  • NRT Lounge Crawl
  • Spending the entire flight chatting with one of the QF B789 pilots, talking all things from his experiences piloting the Dreamliner, to travel destinations, learning languages, tips and tricks for private travel plus much more. Thoroughly enjoyable way to spend 3.5 hours in the air.

Newest aircraft: 1 year (IB A320neo)
Oldest aircraft: 28 years (BA B777-200er)
Dislikes: OW codeshares on Iberia metal seat selection is near impossible. The Private Room in Singapore was a tad underwhelming during anniversary time. My first time in ZRH and the prices for anything was astronomical and exceeded even my expectations (e.g., 12 Swiss francs for a small bag of ice cubes at the supermarket)
Likes: ANDALUCÍA, first and foremost! Spanish high-speed rail (Ouigo Spain was a total revelation, cheap, cheerful and as fast as the mainliners thanks to being double decker). My first SQ F, drank about 6 bottles of Krug over 27 hours, the food onboard was exquisite. Renovated LGA airport was a total revelation and my airport of the year, along with the Chase Sapphire lounge that can be accessed using PP. Arlo Williamsburg !!! Rooftop pool 'free' for guests (there is an exorbitant resort fee though) and overlooks the whole of NYC!!!

Intercity trains: 21 (19 high-speed; 11 Renfe, 5 DB/SBB, 2 Ouigo Spain, 1 Iryo Spain, 1 Amtrak, 1 local commuter Basque region)
Marriott Bonvoy: 113 nights, totalling US$19,442 so close but no Ambassador!)
