Just short of the 50,000mi mark. A lot of "firsts" for me - first time in the USA, so a number of new carriers and airports there. First time in NZ J on the SFO-AKL-SYD run. Transcontinental USA (BWI-SFO) in VX's domestic F was quite nice too. Otherwise, a few trips exploring NZ and visiting a few AU destinations for the first time (or the first time in a long time).

Love this thread (and viewing peoples flight trackers) - fascinating to see where people get to and just how many kms some people fly...

Average year for me, 116,517 km and this is the year that took me into one million kms of flying.
First ever 1st class flight to start the year, and 25% of flights in 1st or business. 75% flights for work (economy) and the rest for travel.
Flying a lot between east and west (13 sectors this year) I find the virgin platinum upgrades and the a330's great bed-fellows.
39 segments so my average flight is 3,000km.
New airports in 2017 were Jinan, Guangzhou, Hanoi and Mackay.
Shortest flight was Beijing to Jinan at 327km.
New airline - Shandong.

Onwards and upwards for 2018...

Average year for me, 70 segments 165728 miles.
The big difference from other years is that only one long haul flight was in Y (MH MEL-KUL). I used lots of points to upgrade PE to J on QF and also some upgrade bids on UL.

I flew PE on 4 OW airlines (CX, QF, JL and BA). I'd say QF still has the best PE product on its 380, but I won't be booking PE on QF 787 anytime soon...

Biggest year for SC (3115) and I achieved LTG with QF.

I have flown 107 sectors this year with 68 of these sectors part of the regular commute BNE/OOL-SYD. There were 7 international trips with 6 trips to Thailand.

I usually look forward to reading JohnK's tally. True dedication to the FFer cause!

Unusual Experience: Had just moved away after checking into CX at BKK (having just prior to that cheerfully - but mistakenly - presented myself for check in at MH - D'oh!) an had stopped to faff around with my carry-on. Bent over, I heard a heavily accented voice say "speak English?". I looked up at an overweight Caucasian man in maybe his 50s (no, no mirrors involved ) and allowed that I did. I cannot recall the exact words but he wanted me to give him a substantial amount of money to top up his wallet enough for him to buy a ticket back to his home country (I think Bulgaria or Romania - cannot recall for sure). Thinking back, the total he said he needed would hardly have got him a last minute one way to Europe. Anyway I politely declined to contribute, and he became both mildly angry and rather pushy. "Three other people have already given, why not you?" "I have been here two nights already". I claimed to have spent all my baht. He told me I "must have other currencies". This was all a fairly quick exchange and I just firmly said no, and headed for the safety of airside.

Now I'm not ungenerous, but I am very wary of being scammed, and while he may have been genuine, it just didn't add up. His subsequent rudeness (even if it was just desperation showing through) made me pleased I had refused regardless.
