Hi,

I'm scheduled to fly QF73 MEL-SFO in a few months then returning on QF26 LAX-MEL a little while later. (Both in whY)

I've had a look at the seating allocation on checkmytrip.com, and ive been given 34C on MEL-SFO and 26H on the LAX-MEL flight.

Questions:
1/ Would you recommend these seats. (My pref is forward aisle)
2/ Is there any way to find the exact configuration of the plane? It's a 747-400, that's all I know. I would have thought it's a 3 class plane, but then my 26H would be invalid.
3/ checkmytrip shows a non-existant seat next to me at 26J. Seatguru don't. What is the deal there?

Thanks,

Josh

Personally I avoid the C and H seats and stick with D or G for aisle. With the C and H seats you will have the window and middle passengers needing to climb over you to get out. With the D or G seats there is a better chance that the E/F seat(s) will be empty and less likelihood of people needing to disturb you. Also with the D/G seats you only have one other person sharing the overhead locker directly above while the ABC and HJK passengers fight for space in the overheads.

SYD-SFO is a 3-class config and likely the 64K version. QF26 LAX-MEL is a 2-class config.

26J and 26K do exist on the 2-class 744 config. Row 26 is the bulkhead. Some like it and some don't. Similarly row 34 is bulkhead on the 3-class config.

I would definitely keep both of those seat allocations. They are almost perfect, but have less seat width due to IFE and tray table in the armrest, unless you are like me and are laterally challenged occassionally.

I was pre-allocated 35D for LHR-HKG, could not get 34C, and managed to pre-allocate 46C exit row which is the next best thing to 34C/H. I have been pre-allocated 26H for MEL-LAX and I am definitely keeping this seat. The good thing about aisle seats in forward bulkhead rows is the cutout portion of the bulkhead giving extra leg room.

Contrary to what some people on AFF advise, and I am only 5'9", I would only sit in outer aisle bulkhead seats as leg room is severely impeded in other bulkhead seats eg 34A/B, 34D/E/F/G or 34J/K on a 3 class 744.

can i be one of those people ;) I am just over 6ft and i still find it much better in the bulkhead seats than the normal ones, my legs just really don't go under the seat in front normally.

I guess its a case whatever you prefer.

I do prefer isles but will also take a window on A330 23A/K.
O/T at one time people said that A330's all windows handrests did raise, but not on the one i took PER-SIN the other day in row 26.

Makes sense, somebody else on here said in another thread that it was on all window seats, i wonder why just 23A/K.
First time i have not sat 23A/K in an A330 for a long time. And hopefully i wont be in a seat further back in the near future.

Hi Josh,

Don't know if you are travelling with a better half, but if so, row 71 - seats A, B or K and J - are worth considering. These are waaaaay down the back of the plane, but the config is 2/aisle/4/aisle/2 (unlike the rest of economy, which is 3/aisle/4/aisle/3), so you don't have to worry about some stranger sitting next to you. Plus, if you're on the taller side, the A and J seats let you stretch out a good deal more than most other places.

We got row 71 K/J on a recent flight back from London to Syd, and it was terrific - I will def request them again in future.
