Normally I could answer this myself, however, the seat map that is being provided by QF (Select Seats option in booking) and checkmytrip.com for SFO-SYD QF74 on Monday the 31st of August are slightly different.

On CMT it is 2 - 4 - 2 which is Prem Econ, yet when I go into my booking it is 2 - 3 - 2 which is J class.

Either way I am happy as it is an O class fare which was only purchased 1 week ago, and only myself travelling.

Status wise, I am currently SG, but this trip will push me back into the world of WP with other bookings in place (with QF) which will see PG status within the next 2 months.

So, do I do the happy dance about potentially getting a sky-slope seat, or realise it will be a Prem Econ seat and to count my blessings and praise the aviation gods. (and yes, I paid for a Y ticket, and if that is where I end up, or am given service for, so be it... so long as I get home safely is all that really matters).

Opinions invited as to the mysterious config of this Boeing 747-400

Do you mean 2 - 3 - 2 or 2 - 3 - 3?

2 - 3 - 3 sounds like PE with a display problem.

Definately 2 - 3 - 2 (on QF) & 2 - 4 - 2 (CMT)

Just did some more looking and given that it is row 38 is must be one of the 14F-66J-40W-187Y (VH-OEB, VH-OEC, VH-OED).

Maybe the QF map is not loading properly???

None of the other Prem Econ 744's have a row 38 (PE ends at 37)

(oops, fixed config in original post)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Given it's a transpac flight, it might be one of the ERs that are configured 14/66/40/187 - VH-OEE->VH-OEI.
Row 38 is, of course, PE seats on those planes too.

ExpertFlyer indicates a 4 class pacific (High J) configuration. (It won't return a WHY seat map).

However, as estate points out, row 38 only exists on these beasties as Y+ seating.

(NB, the fare class availability for this flight is showing 9's for all classes other tna X - this includes E. SO op ups are unlikely).

Y+ seating in QF is more than acceptable, especially given how cheap the airfare was, and given it was only booked 2 and a bit weeks prior to the flight date

FYI - my parents just boarded this flight (QF74) 25 minutes ago, flying J, but were allocated 2E and 2F with J service. For the moment at least, those with good status can get the nice seats!

The same applied yesterday on QF 5 SYD-SIN-FRA where I had an N class Y ticket but got row 35 which is Y+ SYD-SIN.

Ok so I am flying out from SFO on QF74 October 21
have been allocated seat 30F
returning November 11 QF73 seat 35J.
What type of seat is this:?: I paid full price premium economy ticket
I sure hope a comfy one

35J on QF73 Nov 11 is a standard Y+ seat.
For that flight no Y+ passenger will get a skybed.
