Fair enough - just my experience - but my top QF staff experiences in the last year or so have all been on the A380.

Put another way - all my A380 flights (in terms of staff experience) have been miles above my experience with QF crew on other aircraft - by a long way.

But as always YMMV.

Like you, yes I have had a number of great with one very poor service. It won't put me off doing same next year on A380 I love it (will be my fourth year doing AONE).

Can I ask what context you use YMMV, I don't do as many miles as you/other pax or something else? Thanks dfcatch

747 vs A380 in the QF Fleet, l'd go the A380 any day (for long haul - I haven't done transcon on the 747 yet).

To Europe recently, A380 out and 747 back, all in Y.

The 747 on returning to Oz was really showing it's age.

In the first 5 minutes after the seatbelt sign went out...
  • AVOD froze and needed rebooting ~screen is small too (compared to the A380), AVOD navigation buttons were absolutely stuffed; had to press very, very hard to get a response and after 10 minutes of going in a endless loop l was over it. Even FA's which helped me for reboot were having difficulty with it.
  • Seats were literally falling apart (see picture below)
  • My head-rest came off and needed to get put on by staff. Bolt popped out or something.
  • Breakfast was served very, very late. The meal was started about 70-80 minutes before arrival. Crew were rushing to clear the tables and hand out immigration forms + express cards.
Service was average/ok during parts of the flight. One minute service was great, next it was non existent.

A380 - AVOD, leaps and bounds ahead, seats in better condition but same size, crew fantastic and very, very friendly (FA offered champagne from the F :)). Very quiet aircraft compared to the 747.

A promise l made to myself after this trip...
If l do Europe again with QF, it will only be on a A380 or new A330 or another carrier with new aircraft. Those old 747's are rubbish!
