Some changes to the xONEx rules have been mentioned on FT: Rumoured enhancements to oneworld RTWs

One in particular that may affect people here: "TRAVEL MAY NOT BE VIA THE POINT OF ORIGIN."

This means that an itinerary originating from SYD cannot pass back through SYD, it may only terminate in SYD.

Also mentioned is that Origin/Destination Surface segments are no longer permitted in South America.

Ah well - I guess it was good while it lasted :) I guess QF will finally be right about their itineraries now ;)

EDIT

Just thinking about this - I guess it's not the end of the world. If you really wanted the extra flights and were say doing SYD-HKG as your first flight originally, you could switch to MEL-HKG and then return to SYD at the end of the trip and start your four domestic segments then? 16,000 QF points to get to MEL in J isnt terrible for effectively the option of two day trips to MEL?

It will be a cold day in hell before the airlines have it over FTers and AFFers ;) - there will always be a way won't there.

Couldn't you just fly SYD-MEL-HKG at the beginning of your trip if it was just about getting the flights?

What I have used them before is to have "free" flights after I get home - an itin like this:

syd-hkg-lhr-jfk-syd-bne-drw-syd where syd-bne-drw-syd is a weekend awaywith mrssimongr rather than a mileage run. Under the new rules that wouldnt be possible so I would have to start in MEL or BNE and come back to SYD and then have my weekend away. Its not teh end of the world of course.

That eats up a segment that you could use at the end for domestic trips.

This rule previously existed until sometime mid 2005.

Of course, if one commences the itinerary on another 'continent' such as Asia, it's not generally an issue. ;)

I know, I loved those trips at the end. But if your aim is just to fly for SCs and Points, then you can take the domestic segments at the beginning of your trip. It doesn't have to be at the end. Only when you actually want to go somewhere is it better to have them at the end.

I have not yet flown an Oz domestic segment just as a MR - I have used them all for personal trips. This will force more hard core MRs on the remainder of the available segments ;)

Hence I used the word 'trips.' ;)

I guess you could now always squeeze in a domestic trip or 2 before heading overseas if you don't want to bother with coughing up to buy extra tickets outside the xONEx.
