xONE4 split

By way of an example, I have just had some itineries rated.

LONE4 departing July
$4,251.54
MEL-AKL-SCL-LIM,
LPB-SCL-EZE,
AEP-IGR,
GIG-SCL-MAD-LHR-DXB-LHR-HEL-HKG-KUL-HKG-PEK-HKG-MEL-CNS-BNE-MEL

LONE5 departing July
$4,576.69
MEL-AKL-SCL-LIM,
LPB-SCL-EZE,
AEP-IGR,
GIG-MIA-MEX,
CUN-DFW-SFO,
LAX-LAS-MIA-DCA,
JFK-MAD-CAI,
IST-LHR-OSL,
ARN-HEL-HKG-MEL

I am trying to maximise the LONE4, so it is fairly cloe to the LONE 5 given my multiple connections through HKG and LHR. Both killers in terms of charges. These were rated through the AA ATW desk.

Both itineries were started prior to 1st APril, so cannot use JAL. The LONE5 was rated prior to 1st April, whilst the LONE4 was rated 2 days ago due to issues of getting out of South America to Europe.

After reading all the comments from the experts, I've decided that DONE4 is the way to go.

I'm now thinking about flight between USA to London. Is it true that they don't get any AA points/qmiles even in D? If so, what would be the most optimum routing for points between say LAX to any major cities in Europe but London (with the following in mind)?

- Already used up NAM transcontinental flight allowance.
- Want to maximize no of cities to visit i.e. 4 segments in Europe, so all flights to be direct or use 1 flight no.

Thanks.

The only restriction is if you are travelling on a BA flight number. Any other OneWorld flight number is ok. So chose an AA, AY, IB, RJ etc flight number between Europe and North America and you will earn EQP and AA Miles.

Thanks NM for the clarification. :D
I can now do LAX-LHR on AA knowing that I will be earning some points in D.
Here's my revised itinerary:

SYD-LAX-BOS,BOS-ORD,ORD-SLC,LAS-LAX,LAX-LHR,LHR-ATH,ATH-BUD,BUD-HEL,HEL-FCO,FCO-HKG,HKG-CGK,CGK-NRT,NRT-SIN,SIN-SYD,SYD-DRW-PER,PER-SYD.

My first flight leaves on 9 July 2007. On my reservation on aa.com the record locator says ticket on hold and to be paid by 9 July 2007 ie the first departure date. Is this normal? I booked the itinerary by sending an email to AA Reservation on 6 April 2007. Will they really hold it until departure date (some 3 months away)? Well I'm not complaining.
I'm about to send a revised itinerary as above. Will that change the date the tickets have to be paid?

LAX-LHR on BA will be much nicer than on AA. I just did the flight, and got the New Club World seats, which were great - I would rate it as the best business class flight that I have ever had. I credited the points/SCs to QF for that flight only, and all the rest of my flights to AA. Unless you really, really need those additional points in your AA account, I would take the BA flight. and credit it to QF.

That's an excellent point adrian. I might just do that. I will be AA PLT by then and the only thing I'm missing is the 100% bonus on AA compared to 0% bonus on QF (I have no status in QF). I supposed it's worth it. Thanks.

You seem to have only used 4 of the 6 permitted North American sectors so far plus seem to have a total of 18 sectors , so you could do something like LAX-ORD-YZ on AA and then connect on BA to LHR or even buy a cheapie LAX-YVR and then fly BA to London

Dave

Isn't there one too many Australian trans-continental legs? SYD-DRW and PER-SYD.

Thanks for the suggestion Dave. I'm actually thinking now of doing LAX-DFW-YVR on AA and YVR-LHR on BA to get a bit more mileage and not having to buy cheapie ticket LAX-YVR and at the same time can credit to AA.
I will get AA points for YVR-LHR on BA, right?

But I'm a bit confused because OW RTW Planner Itinerary says I had too many sectors in North America (7) but MileageMonkey v0.95012 says it's OK as follows:

1: SYD-LAX: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to North America without immediate transit & departure)
2: LAX-BOS: 1st of 1 (North America Transcon)
*2: LAX-BOS: 1st of 6 (North America)
3: BOS-ORD: 2nd of 6 (North America)
4: ORD-SLC: 3rd of 6 (North America)
5: LAS-LAX: 4th of 6 (North America)
6: LAX-DFW: 5th of 6 (North America)
7: DFW-YVR: 6th of 6 (North America)
8: YVR-LHR: intercontinental
9: LHR-ATH: 1st of 4 (Europe)
10: ATH-BUD: 2nd of 4 (Europe)
11: BUD-HEL: 3rd of 4 (Europe)
12: HEL-FCO: 4th of 4 (Europe)
13: FCO-HKG: 1st of 1 (intercontinental entry to Asia without immediate transit & departure)
14: HKG-CGK: 1st of 4 (Asia)
15: CGK-NRT: 2nd of 4 (Asia)
16: NRT-SIN: 3rd of 4 (Asia)
17: SIN-SYD: intercontinental
18: SYD-DRW: 1st of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
19: DRW-PER: 2nd of 4 (Southwest Pacific)
20: PER-SYD: 3rd of 4 (Southwest Pacific)

Congratulations!! Valid itinerary!!! - (49052 miles)

So which one is correct?

You have a surface sector SLC-LAS. Does this count towards the NA limit of 6 sectors?

I think you are also only allowed one flight between SYD-DRW or PER-SYD. You cannot have both sectors.

Surface sectors are ok on OneWorld Explorer without consuming a segment.

Correct. Cannot do both SYD-DRW and PER-SYD.
OneWorld Explorer Rules said:
(J) WITHIN AUSTRALIA - ONLY ONE NONSTOP/SINGLE PLANE SERVICE FLIGHT IS PERMITTED
BETWEEN THE FOLLOWING POINTS:
BNE/CNS/SYD - PER
MEL/SYD - DRW

Indeed you will. it is only BA flight numbers between Europe and the USA where mileage cannot be earned . If you fly transatlantic to/from Canada/Mexico/Caribbean et al , then you are fine and can get the benefit of BA with the AAdvantage miles

Dav

But not as likely to get the benefit of New New Club World sadly.

OK thanks for all your replies. Can I then do SYD-ADL-PER transit in ADL for less than 24hr then do PER-SYD?

I am planning a SYD-PER-ADl-MEL-SYD in one day in August so I think it is possible :)

I won't be doing YVR-LHR on BA until next year May 2008. Is there a good chance that they will have New New Club World by then?

I think this could be the reason MileageMonkey validates the itinerary but OW RTW Itinerary Planner don't. The later thinks that surface sector consumes a segment. Can anyone put a light on this?

Correct. The OW tool is rather buggy (same with *A tool).

Great, thanks Kiwi Flyer.:D
Good to know we have a lot of experts in this forum that can point to the right direction.

I use the OW tool to plan the actual flights, milegae monkey to validate the routing and EF to check availability and morons at FCM to book the trip.

The reason for using the OW tool is that it can be quick to check connections etc. and I can do it when not connected to the net (i.e. when on the train) and then can copy paste it into word to email to the morons.

Oh and then I use NM/KiwiflyerF/Srfty and Dave Noble to do teh final validation ;)
