WP asking Etiquette when flying International Y

I have to say that I am very cynical about it and never ask anything but rather than Fast Track ticket if it is available. Let us have a look at other things you could get:

1>, J or F amenity
I am sure they put J or F amenity out if available but i would think numbers are limited to one per pax or a little bit more just in case. If every WP asked for one I doubt if there is enough. So I think to ask J or F amenity is just insane. You could have bought J or F tickets, or using miles to upgrade!

2>, Noise Cancelling headphone
Come on, bring your own! I always pack one for the flight and I found I rarely use them nowadays.

3>, J or F meal
Again I am sure they loading the meals according to the loading. You may not get the choice. My recent flight on QF is great and I found Y meals are accpetable.

4>, Bubbles from the front
Really? You mean you did not enjoy the bubble from F lounge? I would class it as greedy.

Any way, no offence. I just found it is not necessary to ask for anything rather than the Fast Track cards (in recent travel it always be given without request any way). When people try to be polite or nice to you, it does not mean you can ask for any thing from them. they may be expecting a no as reply really.

If the FAs ask me if there is anything they can get me, I go for simple & ask for some nice wine. I enjoy, and have noticed they seem to enjoy pouring me this too. Have never asked for a meal or PJs. Sometimes they give me the pJs or amenity kit. I take this to mean for later use... Have occasionally been given the cheese platter as am enjoying the wine. Am delighted with the treat and am sure to let them know.

This wine &/ cheese is probably an easy thing to pop into me, so doesn't create conflict for other passengers.I enjoy these extra bonuses when they are there, but always expect to fly in the class I've paid for as well as all the extras I've paid for. Additional things are a real treat, and I enjoy them every single time.

On wa recent flight BNE-TSV I was asked by the FA if i'd like a bottle of water & newspaper, as were the other WP's, a guy sitting across from me got rather annoyed at the FA that he had not been offered the same.

I was stitched up well by my father in law when I first became WP years ago. He told me that they will get you whatever you wanted. I thought i would go easy to start with and requested a filter coffee from J (on Y int'l) which they gave me. Then 6 hours later I went to the galley and asked what the red selections were in J that day. She happily told me. I then asked if I could have one please, as I am WP (DYKWIA!!!!) and was politely refused.

Got back, told me father in law, and he had a cheshire cat grin from ear to ear. Whoops!

I hadn't thought of asking for the J coffee - that's something that I'd enjoy - I might start asking for that!

Not greedy at all. Sitting in WHY you get little enough anyway.

As I posted earlier, making such a small request empowers them and generally makes them more approachable. I find it can be rather awkward to request nothing; it's like that have not met their service standard.

Hmmm, if a FA asks if there's anything they can get you from outside the usual Y cabin, it's hardly being greedy by asking for something from outside the usual Y cabin. That's pretty much the point of the request, isn't it? Bubbles from the front is a pretty easy request to deliver on, and satisfies the unwritten contract between FA and WP, which goes like this:

[I will offer to do something for you which will acknowledge your status, make you feel a bit special, and make your trip in Y just that little bit nicer. You will request something that won't have me running around like a blue-coughd fly, and won't force me to say 'no' to you and embarrass us both.]

Greedy... greedy is ratting off a shopping list of everything from J/F, short of the actual seat itself.

And besides, what sort of heathen can drink F-lounge bubbles, and then willingly regress to cheap Australian swill? That's just not on.

I have no problem with this - depending on the circumstances, I have asked for bubbles from F (when traveling in J) and they are usually happy to oblige.

Apart from the abovementioned, maybe the same items for your non-WP travelling companions, an extra express pass card for them,

When I've been travelling with non-WP peeps, the flight attendents have always given us all express passes - no point in me having one if I then have to wait ages for them to get through the queue, is there?!

I certainly count myself in that group - I can manage the Champers in J but can't imagine what they serve in whY...

I remember being offered a wine from J while flying in Y once - I think at the time I was a Gold FF - but I politely declined. As a non-drinker the gesture was a bit lost on me. I think the FA did feel a bit unempowered - she kept insisting "are you sure? you're sure?". I should have asked her for a nice J juice I guess...

Probably where I was wanting the discussion to head towards. The happy medium, perhaps the newspaper, the odd nip on something better than Y wine. I noticed on my last trip (QF12) as AA plat (sapphire) was a little hollow compared to QF WP on the same flight, which raised a good question, would AA explat (emerald) be treated the same as WP on this flight QF12 in Y

As a non-drinker I would have had the same issue. Key is to request something which adds a nice touch but doesn't go too far. Perhaps you could have reempowered her by asking for some other snack from the business menu?

Agree with this.

I've very politely said "I don't suppose it would be possible to get a glass of Champagne from up front would it?" with a friendly smile and a cheekiness in my voice. I've never been declined yet. It usually comes with the offer of noise cancelling headphones from up front, and an amenity kit (not asked for).

In some cases, the CSM has kept the Champagne flowing as well, without me requesting it. Other times it's just the glass but they do seem to stop by you more regularly to ensure everything is a-ok.

Thanks for the tips! The last time, I asked the CSM "What is it that I could ask for?". Better headphones was the suggestion. But I had my own Noise Cancelling headphones. Anyway, I did ask for a newspaper and got it. The amenity kits aren't that great but I do use the socks and toothbrush/toothpaste. Next time I'll ask for a glass of red from F/J. (I think I'm in a very small group of AFF'ers (maybe just me) that isn't much impressed with any "fizz" no matter how expensive it is! :)).
