DJ has a soft landing, what gives?

7.12 If the total number of Status Credits earned at your Review Date does not meet the criteria in clause 7.14 to maintain the same Membership Level, then, your Membership Level will be downgraded to the Membership Level below your current Membership Level.

oh... well i don't think it applies to me because I was WP only because of a status match and I didn't really hold up my end of the bargain... it's ok.

Funny thing was as it's easier to achieve status with DJ i was planning to put my 2 london trips a year to DJ but QF comp changed that...

There are no * or # saying status matched folk miss out, unless you did not do the sectors?

Given that I seem exempt from any love from QF (ie no double SC's etc), not prepared to take my chances on being comped to retain WP.

Comping of status?

It happened to me twice in my first 2 years of Platinum but I just made Platinum each time. My SCs balance for each year was only just on the number required to attain/maintain. I guess that is another inconsistency.

Similar experience here. Year end 30 April and I generally do a DONE4 March/April. Last 2 years I was comped WP when I had enough SC's to earn it.

I can only hope they defer the comps to a year when I really need it.

Would've thought QF's generosity re comp'ing status would've increased given the pursuit of higher tiered flyers by VA.

I was 20 short after being Plat for 2 years. I had a Jetstar points flight booked worth 20 scs and in between taking it received a letter advising I had been renewed. While appreciated it was a bit of a waste of a comp for me.

I was shocked as Virgin dropped me to PS from WP due to a lack of sc's and I was expecting max SG because my sc's were so low... didn't realise people with lower totals got comped before.
I think there may be something wrong here. I was comped Virgin Platinum and only have 140SCs for the year and according to their terms and conditions I will be Gold for the next 12 months.

Anything less and they will be hearing from my lawyer....

...as long as you have the four sectors....

I think you nailed it... a lot of the flights were with NZ... makes sense... I didn't complain because i felt i used them more than the reverse... =)

There is NO reference in the Velocity T&C's of minimum sectors in respect of not re-qualifying a status.
At the risk of being hollered at because "this isn't news!" (LOL), I don't think this is actually something that Virgin has ever fully stated or 'gone on record' with this, but they have confirmed the "soft landing" for Velocity, so Platinums who have not racked up the status credits to keep Platinum will become Gold. I appreciate this is something that most people on AFF expected and many would say they "knew" already but I'm sharing it anyway.

Virgin Australia's 'soft landing' for Velocity frequent flyers - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller
It should have been obvious to most from the T&C's but there have not been too many anecdotes ...
I am very interested in how it's handled for downgrades.

My expiry is next month, but I will have had two eligible flights (and 6 award flights). The T&C's indicate "soft landing" with no reference to eligible sectors:
...
Eligible Sector means a flight journey from an origin to a destination:
(a) that has been flown;
(b) that has been purchased using cash or credit;
(c) that has not been purchased in whole or in part using Points; and
(d) where Virgin Australia is the marketing carrier (This means that the flight number starts with a DJ or VA prefix).
...

6.20 To upgrade to, or maintain, a Silver, Gold or Platinum Membership, you need to fly the required number of Eligible Sectors each year and earn the number of Status Credits set out in clause 7.14 each year. The required number of Eligible Sectors you need to fly before your Review Date to upgrade to, or maintain Membership Levels are:
6.20.1 Silver Membership - two Eligible Sectors;
6.20.2 Gold Membership - four Eligible Sectors; and
6.20.3 Platinum Membership - eight Eligible Sectors.

...

Downgrading a Membership Level

7.12 If the total number of Status Credits earned at your Review Date does not meet the criteria in clause 7.14 to maintain the same Membership Level, then, your Membership Level will be downgraded to the Membership Level below your current Membership Level.

The only reference to eligible sectors is in relation to Qualification and re-qualification.

Clause 7.14 & 7:15 only refer to the number of SC's and eligible sectors required to maintain/attain a membership level:
Status Credits required
7.14 The number of Status Credits required to upgrade to and maintain each Membership Level is set out below:
Silver
Gold
Platinum
Status Credits to upgrade to Membership Level
250
500
1,000
Status Credits to maintain Membership Level
200
400
800

7.15 In addition to clause 7.14 you also need to fly the number of Eligible Sectors set out in clause 6.20 to maintain your Membership Level.
