Worse than feet on bulkheads

Front row of W in QF 1 to SIN yesterday and the older gentleman across from me listening to the AFL livestream without headphones all through boarding, safety talk and takeoff. Ended up asking his travelling partner who was next to me, if he had headphones. Some grumbles between them and he puts his headphones in when the livestream finally dropped out but continues to listen to his audio book on full blast. Couldn’t get his headphones to link to his phone and I could even hear his book through my NC headphones. Cabin crew oblivious to all of this. Was very glad when he decided to have a nap a few hours into the flight. Not sure if he was just rude and arrogant, or just unable to use his devices.

If he can't get his headphones to work, then the default should be no audio book, not annoying an entire cabin. I would have been quite firm on this.

Regardless of his ability to use devices (no excuses) just rude and arrogant DYKWIA

Regarding playing loud videos on speaker on the plane: anyone been on public transport lately?
The number of times on the train some inconsiderate idiot starts scrolling TikTok endlessly with volume turned up to 11 is most disheartening. Rather than make a scene I simply move carriages.

Must remember that for next time I'm flying. Rather than make a scene, I'll simply move to J or F 🤣

(tongue-firmly-in-cheek)

You could just change planes.

If I'm on a bus I'll often call them out

I did on a recent J flight with Qatar - guy was on his phone on speaker and the staff must have heard it and ignored it

Been getting my 50c worth of Trains down Brissy recently, from Sunny Coast to Gold Coast.
Muppets everywhere, even on the quiet carriages, with no headphones, talking loud on calls or f and c bombs every second word.
My own medium quality NC headphones died earlier this year...I only used them twice on trips...so had to listen to the noise. never saw a security type.

The “noisy on ‘phones in public” category is all baby boomers anywhere near me … for some reason they all want to have lengthy conversations on Speaker Phone setting, yelling into the mic at the end of the ‘phone. It’s most prevalent among elderly folk with Asian & Indian backgrounds, but still plenty of Karens doing the same … now I think about it, being female is another commonality.

This! 1000% THIS!!! Absolutely drives me nuts!! And then when they can't hear the other person properly, they yell louder into the mic to tell the other person to speak up because... you know... that's how you solve that particular problem. 🤬

You probably need higher quality headphones to beat those annoying people with. No wonder they only lasted two trips  🤣

Really? I've found this trend amongst all ages and sexes. Race? Not the ones I've seen.

And I am going in to bat for JQi pax in the J cabin on JQ 65 BNE - BKK yesterday. No one being rude to the crew. Not one watching video without headphones. No feet up on bulkhead. But all with high BMIs and as far as I could tell the only obnoxious one was sitting behind Mrsdrron but he had by far the highest BM I maybe couldn’t help it
Certainly better than recent SQ J cabins.

I would suggest that most with Asian and Indian backgrounds could not meet the general definition of "baby boomer". Such is not based entirely on birth year. Demographic is very relevant. With that you use.of baby boomer/asian/Indian is illogical.

My experience with the behaviour of people of my age (yes, I am over 60) and demographic is generally the opposite of what you indicate.

Let me clarify then … they’re generally people over about 60, yelling into their ‘phones on speaker; so if you’re anywhere near them, you get to enjoy both sides of the conversation..

People watching a video without headphones are normally under … I’d say about 30-ish. But I see/hear that a lot less frequently than older people sharing their conversations with the world via speakerphone.
