Worse than feet on bulkheads

SQ flight from SIN to LHR just before Xmas, departing at around midnight - I was sat in an economy exit row, window seat. At various stages in the flight I woke up to find the shoeless (but sock-wearing) feet of the person behind me resting on the back 25% of one or the other of my arm-rests. Yuk! I'm not sure how well he could walk on disembarkation as they "accidentally" got elbowed rather hard on each occasion.........

If this ever happens to me, I'm prepared to "accidentally" spill water.

Hot coffee works a treat

You'd think they'd at least close the doors. Money can't buy class I guess. Or the thought that they've paid big bucks so can do as they liked.

He should have been told by Qantas staff that his lack of footwear is unacceptable and and dangerous. If he had dropped a glass etc on his feet what would the outcome be ???

I would have weasled my way in close to him and stood on his toes - 'Oh my god - sorry mate!'

I'm not know as being backwards in coming forward (or crushing some toes) - but the full context was that he was there with I think his brother and their mother (who I suspect had the lounge entry); had thongs on but slipped them off while having lunch. Nipped over to the bar for something.

Its what happens when you get something (a privilege) that isn't earned - you take it for granted.

I'm really clumsy with hot drinks...the staff was very remiss in not saying something. I guess they expect people to know how to behave.

Clubs have standards of entry: no T shirts, thongs etc....

Why is that QF Lounges appear to have none ?

thongs is bad enough when in First/Business and associated lounges, no shoes at all....? <sigh>

Or maybe I was just born to live in Downton Abbey.

It really is so frustrating when you've worked your a** off to obtain & maintain a high FF status, dress & behave appropriately, and find that you're seated next to someone in Row 3 who thinks they're at home on their couch with their feet up on the coffee table! Had this experience on a flight home yesterday - pax in 3A felt that it was his right to put his feet up on the bulkhead for the majority of the flight. It's not about being snobby or thinking I'm better than anyone else as I'm most definitely not. It's just common courtesy and showing a little respect for the airline and the pax around you - something that appears to be lacking a little these days. Not sure if this pax held status (didn't speak with him), but would like to see VA (or any airline for that matter) take a stronger stance on this type of behaviour. Am I asking too much???

Am I asking too much???

Yes :)
That person might have worked just as hard or harder than you, have just the same or better status and deserves to relax and enjoy their flight just as much as you.

Relax already everyone about the feet on bulkheads. You will never convince everyone else that it is as big of a problem as you say

Live and let live
Life is too short to stress about irrelevant issues like feet on the bulkhead

You're entitled to an opinion, so are we.

'Irrelevant' ?

'Deserved to relax and enjoy' ?

It seems you have not taken into account the public nature of paid flights. And, in public most people tends to behave in a manner that's not annoying, intrusive and/or offensive to others around them.

Think picking your noses / ears, for example.

Thinking coughing with your mouth open and uncovered.

Think using toothpick or dental floss.

Sure, we all carry out those acts at home (and some more...) but we tend to restrain ourselves in public - out of respect for the common, shared environment.

So, we are now 'irrelevant' ???

The issue is that we've all had different parents. Some who have taught us how to behave in public. And others - not so much. And there's nothing we can do to change that and stressing over it isn't going to change anything. Just bother us.

I don't like "anti social" acts in public either. And will post pix here sometimes. But maybe we should just take the higher ground and be glad for the values we have and not expect others to live up to those or we go through life disappointed.

Mark3000, appreciate your opinion, and accept that this could be seen as a first world problem and nothing to get too stressed over. I'm a pretty relaxed, polite person who (I don't believe) asks too much of anyone, however I would be interested to know if there would be anything on a flight that would frustrate you? I'm no DYKWIA by any stretch of the imagination, and I try to be courteous to my fellow passengers, the FA's, the Ground Staff, Lounge Angels etc and behave in a manner that I believe is acceptable when locked in a tin can high above the earth. Maybe I'm just being too precious - putting my feet on a bulkhead (especially without my shoes & socks on) isn't something I would consider doing - regardless of my FF status. Just my thoughts.

Lovely sentiment on Australia Day .... explains a lot about the last 24 hours and 2.4 centuries.

The lounge staff do not want to have confrontations so they let it go. I believe that they don't even work for Qantas, so what do they care, though the desk staff do.

I pose a question. If it's okay to wear pyjamas or the equivalent on the plane then why not in the lounge?
