worlds 10 most expensive hotels

I thought I might have accidentally stayed at one of these hotels but I was mistaken. Not likely to stay in this lifetime either unless someone else is paying. ;)

I've stayed at the Huka Lodge in New Zealand, but it was a company conference/shin-dig, no idea of what they charged, but imagine it was nowhere near $1300. And have also stayed at the Plaza Athenee. This was out my own pocket, but nowhere near that rate. I was lucky enough to know one of their reps in the S.E. Asia region who helped me with the booking.
But still, it was an arm and almost a leg price , I thought at the time. This was 1997.
I would recommend both, if you have the chance. Huka is breathtaking and Athenee is a little old world, but an astonishing experience. I did manage to, when I stayed at Athenee, get invite to afternoon tea at the George V..... beautiful, but all I could say was..meh! dull! and underwhelming.

All 3 Explora's are all inclusive, literally….
They pick you up and return you to the nearest airport.
Open bar and decent wines, 3 quality meals a day , all walks , rides , tours etc are guided.
The accommodation is very good but definitely not opulent.

There is no comparison to a high diem room in a fancy hotel.

+ 1 for Huka Lodge.

Long-ish story ... my own funds but business objective. Resulted in a very good contract for me from a fellow-stayer I had arranged to meet there.

So yes, in overall terms worth it :) . But in absolute terms? I don't spend that money for accommodation, but the experience was exceptional in every regard.

Crazy money...so was it worth it?
I am not sure how you define worth in the context of these sorts of prices. Singita Sasakwa in Tanzania is around $5,000 per night for a couple. The safari camps in Botswana (kings Pool etc) are around $6,000 per night. For that accommodation, food, basic alcohol (no bubbly or premium wines) and a couple of game drives are included. Haven't been to Botswana yet, so can't comment on those prices, but I would go back to Sasakwa without thinking twice if I get the opportunity, so I guess it was worth it.
