Does anyone's job/work pay for business/work related flights in First or Biz class?

If so, what do you? Just curious..

Also, whats the most SC anyone has earned in a membership year?

I managed to earn 1430 with alot of domestic flights, a star class return flight to BKK, and a recently completed OW circle asia fare in J.

thanks

Chucksta

My company pays for Biz on anything over 6 hours. Then depending on the schedules and availability they will pay for discounted F travel. I am the APAC Internal Audit Director reporting to the US - so twice a year I have to visit the US and three times a year up into Asia (less next year).

As I now put my points to AA my SC earning. If i had put all of the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 flights to QF then my SCs would be:

Oct 05 - Sep 06 - 800
Oct 06 - Sep 07 (forecast) - 6200

That can't be right...

Hmm flights taken (and planned) between 1 Oct 06 and 30 Sep 07:

Given that travel, IMHO you should put enough flights to earn 1,400 SC's to QF. There should be plenty of the 160K+ miles (or 300K+ Qpoints) left to earn AA EXP as well.

Yeah thinking about that - I currently have 260K FF points on AAdvantage. I need between 300 and 380K points before Mid august to get sufficient points for two rtw J awards (planned for July 2008).

As my qualifying period is to 30 Sep and I have flight straddling that - if I put all my flights post qualifying for EXP to QF I will be about 20K short of the points needed for the trip (no biggie I am sure I can get those points together somehow). However I will only be WP until Sep 2008 - I just wish I could earn enough points post 30 Sep to qualif for WP early.

If I look at all flights post Sep 30 then I reckon that by the end of 2006 Calendar year I will earn (1 Oct to 31 Dec) only 760 SCs. I dont want to jeopardise my EXP status for nexy year and I think I will only have at most 2xDONE4 and 1xCircle Asia (just sneaking into EXP next year).

Just seems a waste to qualify for WP so late in the year - to only get benefit for 14 months seems a waste...

Decisions decisions - at least I have until late July to debate that here ;)

You could be selective in looking for those flights which are just into the next SC tier by a few miles or so.

I.e. Put a 1244 mile DFW-LAX flight to QF as it's 43 miles over the 1201 mile tier level and a 2340 mile LAX-MIA flight to AAdvantage as it's 59 miles under the 2401 Tier level. In first you would get the same 120 SC's for both in QF , but 2488 Qpoints against 4680 respectively in AAdvantage.

I'm allowed to book D class on MELCBRMEL if the D fare is only a marginal difference to the 'cheapest available' economy fare.

Having said that I now prefer the Y seats on the QFlink prop service to the J seats on the 734. Unfortunately the QFlink service doesn;'t necessarily suit my schedules. :(

And alas that's all the work travel that I do.

Anyone wants to give me a list of career options that involve lots of long haul J travel that I can think about post graduation? :D

I think if I was already WP or EXP I would play a few more games to maximise the benefit on the two programs. As I am trying to get to OWE for the first time I want to get there quickly. After that is the decision point. The only benefit of WP is better access to QF F upgrades and I dont actually have any QF flights planned at the moment  so its not something i need. I wish my US trip was in First week of October - then I would definitely go for WP...

Apologies for hijacking the thread (again)

my work has only recently eased off on their travel policy and allowed J bookings (thank god!) Im the Business Process Manager for Asia Pac with most of the travel being to Singapore and Tokyo, however also with the odd trip to Amsterdam and Ottawa.

I was only introduced to the world of the frequent flyer last august (thanks simongr). I gained AA plat through the challenge last year and requalified this year only last week (hoping to qual for exp by end of july)

Just to add to the QF v AA debate....I'll be allocating all my points to AA as my main objective is to get award flights for the family and to where we want to go you need far less points in the AA program than in QF! The only benefit I see in me going QF would be to get rid of that ugly bronze QF card in the wallet and to be able to have the 744 upperdeck seat 16A pre-allocated to me (now thats what I call 'leg room' ;) )

My work allows me to travel J for anything over 4 hours (although PER-MEL is counted towards that - thank goodness, have done that trip 6 times already this calendar year).

However, if client's policy is J, then I can travel J on shorter flights (when client is paying).

I am AA EXP Plat.. all on Disc whY....
My company has a travel policy that mandates whY on all flights.
My nightly hotel rate is also low but being IC plat has helped make this more comfortable.

To clear things up a little, I work in medical devices, but my boss is a sterotypical Scotsman...
My peers in other companies are having a ball compared to me.

That being said, I got to EXP from January 06 to November 07 by sectors (100+), Q miles and Q points.

I did get a few flights in WT+, but managed to also get quite a few Australia to Asia flights in B or Y booking classes. This was due to a large number of very short notice flights...

I am planning a DoneX for later this year just to make sure I am at Exp again.

I have had a few op ups in the last year from both BA and CX, but as per most peoples experience.. not ever from QF.

The guys doing yield management should move careers to blackjack.. they are usually pretty well spot on the numbers and would make a fortune counting cards... :D

IanF, not Olympus is it? :D

I get J on anything 4 hours +, and all international.

If I didn't, I'd likely pay the extra myself on those sectors anyway.

Anything sub-4 hours is flexible economy, usually flexisaver or JetFlex - so I get to maintian WP status without living out of a suitcase these days.

No such luck..:D

If my boss had his way he would wrap me in bubblewrap and Fed Ex me.

I have upped myself on several occasions with points, but this has only been to save my sanity.
It really got out of hand when I flew in to SIN, worked the next day and flew out on the overnight flight and went straight into the office when i got in and then that night flew out back to MEL....

The most expensive thing about these sort of flights will be the lawyer at my divorce !

Internal Audit seems to be a popular one (I've heard of positions at MacqBank having 75%+ travel, both domestic and int'l).

Working for one of the Big 4 can also have its travel advantages, even as a new grad...though usually not as a graduate accountant.

Our work policy depends entirely on your position Depending on where you sit, you could be flying everywhere in Y, or everywhere in J/F (yes, the policy includes F travel for some :)).

Sometimes we go by the clients' policies though, in which case even the Y travellers (ie: me) get to experience J. :)

Cheers.

the whole SOX act introduced massive amounts of travel for the internal auditor.....the majority of US listed companies and their subs are now settled when it comes to this and the crazy travel times are dying down...however there are still pots of 'travel' gold out there...

from 7+ years in the big4 I did get to travel however it doesnt compare to commerce...

No doubt there are careers out there with a lot more travel, but I find my current level of travel suits me. Approx once/month (sometimes a bit less) - usually domestic, but with a bit of int'l thrown in.

In 18 months I've been on four overseas trips (two in J), and qualified for QFF Gold two years in a row. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.
