Well said RG1. I think many will find that a rash decision to stop shopping at Wooloworths just because there wont be any QFF points wont be the best for them long term.
The main reason I shop at WW more than Coles is the ability to use the gift card and this wont change. EDR point were nice but really somewhat lower in my priority list, personally never thought th earn was that great and hence not so upset to lose it. Coles stopping selling 5% gift cards was a much bigger deal to me.

I just got a survey asking if Id shop more at Woolworths if I still got EDR points, seems odd to do your market research after announcing the change!
 
I am still at a loss to understand what all the hullabaloo is all about - the change will benefit all - 'Simply money off your Shopping'! Evidence here:

On on a serious note - I have regularly shopped at the one WW several times a week for many years - I know quite a few of senior staff on first name basis - quizzing them over customer response since last Sunday indicates not even a murmur coming back from customers - seems the general community hold a very different view to AFF members.

I still stand by my earlier observation that the loss of the ability to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Points will cost Woolies at least 1% - 2% of their customers .
Some may view this as quite a small loss of custom, but let's remember Woolies isn't achieving the double digit sales growth it was a decade ago when Coles were in the doldrums and were the retail dinosaur of Australian retailing.
This new loyalty program dispute all the fluff & hype is not exactly going to win customers back from Coles and I'm firmly of the belief that Woolies lose further market share as a result.
 
So far I've done 2 shops at WW, spent a combined total of $166 over 2 shops, not $1 saved by swiping WW rewards card nor not $1 earnt in WW dollars.. how is this better?
 
According to an article in the AFR Weekend discussing the changes, 50% of EDR cardholders never linked their card to QFF.

AFFers are in a different demographic/see the world differently than many - er, probably most ;).
 
Convenience is the major factor for us ... imagine it's the same for 99.5% of all shoppers.
 
As pi$$ed as I was when the announcement was made I've had some time to calm down and think vaguely rationally.

I prefer to shop online (I don't handle crowded/chaotic places like shopping centres well) so comparing Woolworths and Coles on a basket of items I regularly buy Woolworths is cheaper by 6.34%. When I factor in that I buy Wish eGift cards at 5% off, Woolworths becomes cheaper by 11.02%.

I deliberately excluded fresh fruit and vegetables from the analysis as the price at either retailer can vary depending on season, weather etc.

Points are nice but I can't justify paying the premium. I'm still earning 3 MR points per dollar on my Platinum Edge which is my preferred point currency since it is so versatile.

This is something I really need to look into. Do you click/collect or get it delivered? We find aware the shops every 2-3 days which considering it's just the two of us seems excessive.

We do eat a lot though!
 
i have been shopping online for quite a long time as i don't run a car. i pay the 100 bucks a year for unlimited deliveries provided i spend a hundred bucks a time. I will stick with woolworths for the foreseeable future, because i prefer their soda water, and they sell Black Swan low fat yoghurt, amongst other things. Coles have the free delivery wednesday caper, but i have never managed to get a booking. Always all gone.

I think this is very true, and in our case we allowed ourselves to be inconvenienced for the sake of a few QFF points. Not any more, WW is a bridge too far, and they will lose $10-15K from us next year as we move our bi-weekly larger shop to somewhere closer to home.
 
This is probably veering OT but never buy E10 unless you want to replace your engine regularly. I buy Shell Vortex. It costs more but I get better mileage and I doesn't make a mess of my engine.
But if 6 months of the year you are filling a rental then you get used to using E10.:D:oops:;)

Each store has a different customer base. The metrics of customers who do or don't want QF points will be different in each store.
Some stores will have a large impact from this as customers leave from the loss of QF points, other stores will only have a medium impact, others will have no impact.

Many customers didn't link their EDR accounts to QF, often because they didn't want to sign up to EDR at all and only used temp cards, others because they were collecting EDR points which had auto gift cards sent out after they reached a certain amount of points.

As it is, with QF points staying until at least the end of the year, most people planning to change due to loss of points won't move until next year.
 
Like many others, I have a quick and easy choice between Coles and Woolies, and I've usually shopped at Woolies because of the QFF points. However, I'm going to investigate Coles more thoroughly - they seem to have more specials. Woolies has underground car parking (nice in summer) but Coles doesn't, so I've generally shopped at Woolies.

Yesterday, had a look at the Woolies specials website and thought "they have to be joking". Baking supplies I buy once a year, and nothing else there that I would normally buy.

Coles, here I come 1 Jan.

Maybe AFF members are quite discerning regarding the merits and otherwise of rewards programs compared to the general community.
 
But if 6 months of the year you are filling a rental then you get used to using E10.:D:oops:;)


What I find disconcerting in a car - even a rental - filled with E10 is the constant stream of water emanating from the exhaust pipe when the engine is going - and no blown head gasket!
