Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

I'm about to ditch my Macquarie Woolworths credit card.
Has anyone heard of extra Qantas points coming from purchases using this card?

If you mean the non-QF version, I just cancelled mine. Only ever had cash discounts offers mostly online spend-never used it after first purchase. As I cancelled I was iffered a 4.5k balance transfer at 1.8%-declined this as factoring in the annual fee, not worth the effort and exposure

As the new WW scheme is almost an exact copy of FB, it will now all come down to the bonus points on offer. The base points earn in both schemes is very poor (0.5% return on spend).

FB send weekly bonus coupons out for the following quarter (product, triple point and spend target) along with weekly docket deals (when their system is working) and email bonuses. I have been lucky enough to get a triple triple bonus on a Coles shop (triple points coupon, docket and email, which is only 7pts/$ total).

It is the bonus point opportunities that will make or break the revised scheme. I have not received anything at all from WW since March and alot of spend has therefore gone to Coles (I only joined FB at the start of the year when WWR was rolled out).

As someone who rarely spends over $30 in a single shop, I will most likely earn far more with 'attempt 3' of WWR/EDR. It will also markedly increase the scan rate of WWR cards as it was pointless scanning previously if you are not earning anything.

This !

I suspect initially Woolies will offer some bonus points offers in order to stimulate some atmosphere around the relaunch of their loyalty card MIII.

But the million dollar question will be can Woolies keep up and remain competitive with the offers from Coles/Flybys.

No doubt Coles will continue with their regular targeted bonus point promotions, as they will fight hard to keep all the refugees they won over when Woolies stuffed up on their loyalty card relaunch MII last year.

As someone who works in marketing, I can't wait to see the competitive landscape over the next few months now that woolies have admitted their mistake.

Of course it could be completely uneventful and another complete flop, but if not, we might see some real fighting over customers between the two loyalty programs.

I have not received an offer in over 6 months, just the usual marketing garbage.

I look forward to my $9.28 of Woolworths Rewards (which have been stuck at that amount for months) being converted to 1856 points. Then all I have to do is spend another $144 at Woolworths and I can finally get some more Qantas points. Well 870 QF points. I hope the special (double/triple?) points offers come thick and fast.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Start 31 August. FAQs suggest can't change redemption settings to QF points until then

We won't really know the full details until Woolworths officially announce the details. Some issues have been leaked but until we get the official notification we won't know what the status is.

The new system sounds fairer.

We won't know how good the targeted offer system is until after they make the changes.

The base point system will be similar to flybuys but if WW are going to round up points instead of rounding down points like flybuys, the WW base point system might be considered better than flybuys.

If I was a betting man, you'll need to get that up to $10 before they let you convert to Qantas points. Also, I believe conversion rate is still $10(2k points)=870 qff.

Along with the average, fixed rate redemption a la fly buys and Etihad, the fact you have to wait until December suggests they are really hesitant to jump back in to bed with Qantas. This might be a bigger part of the equation than previously thought.

Heads at wow marketing: "if we give them Woolworths dollaroonies, but call them points and give them one per dollar spent, people will still want Woolworths dollaroonies"

Looks like the Qantas points will land in account just before Christmas (15 Dec plus up to 7 days)

Yes, as per Andye, it looks like the points convert based on balance at 15/12, and presumably on an annual basis in future based on $10 reward dollars increments? So not a way to build points progressively during the year.

I have set a reminder to login on 31/8 to change my points settings to accrue to QF, although the $.50 Woolies dollars that have lain dormant there for some months will not be added to quickly, as most of our spend has been directed elsewhere primarily on the convenience factor since December last year. But there are things we still go to Woolies for, that cannot be acquired at the local Coles, so I might just start flashing the Rewards card again next month - it has not been used for over 6 months now.

So, if we opt for QFF points, we will only be able to redeem them once per year... is that what everybody else is reading from the rather lame FAQs?

If that is the case, that's carp, and WOW have clearly manufactured the scheme to get people to redeem as WWRupiah.

Terms and Conditions reveal:

You will receive at least 870 Qantas Points for every $10 Woolworths Dollars in your Account. Conversion will take place in multiples of $10 Woolworths Dollars only. Any balance of less than $10 Woolworths Dollars will remain in your Account for future use.

  4. Convert into Qantas Point now

Taking clear advantage of everyone's general propensity to hate call centres.

I wonder if we will be able to use 'online chat' to do the same.

What a complicated way considering the previous conditions which seemed to work fine.

Woolworths have lost me as their sole provider for the weekly shopping and won't get me back until I don't have to do anything extra. Ok so I miss enough points per year for one and half trips Sydney to Melbourne in Y (one way) but when I check the price last it was't expensive anyway.

Hope Woolworths have been pleased with the outcome.

Matt

So in future

How many points equals 870 Qantas Points?

2000 Woolworths points = $10 Woolworths Dollars
$10 Woolworths Dollars = 870 Qantas Points

And apart from specials you earn at 1 point per $ spent.

So you have to spend $2000 to earn 870 QFF points.
- Old scheme 1 QFF point per $ spent above $30.
- New scheme less QFF per $ but on all $ plus also earns on fuel stationspend now (So if you mainly have small shops and buy alot of petrol you may be in front)
-Old scheme I used to average 4+QFF points per $ spent. New scheme is unknown, but I suspect based on recent history will be way less generous and so I would probably only earn 0.5-1.0 QFF point per $1 (if I did not go the cash option). At such a low rate this is too small to sway where I shop (Though I my case I have a WOW within a km and Aldi/Coles are 15 minutes away by car and so time saved and convenience means that WOW will still gaina lot of my supermarket spend).

However at 1.15 cents per QFF point and with QFF being not a good value redemption program for many of us including myself it may be best just to take the cash.

Due to the lack of offers from WW Mrs Warks moved all the fruit/veg/meat purchases to Costco some time ago. Woolworths hasn't even noticed her decline in spending (and lack of spending). We got an offer to use my son's EDR card for a few weeks to get successive dollars off so all spending went on that. His card hadn't been used in about three years so I don't know what brought that on.

Much as I hate to say it I'd prefer to get Velocity points nowadays with the 'taxes' on QF redemptions making it barely worthwhile for me.

My theory is that about a month ago Woolworths Rewards tracked down some of the accounts their offers system had lost track of and sent out some we miss you offers to them.
