Woo hoo, first ever business class flight

No probs and thanks for the headsup. I like Thailand, well, not so much the country but the people. They are, in the main, wonderful. I don't know whether you're coming into Thailand or going out, but all the best anyhow.

Hi,

I have left and am now in SIN J lounge. The peopel I agree are awesoem, m y family spent 3 months living ther ewith me and my 10 mth old son at the time was adorned. I wish you the best there.

Pics of the plane or Thailand?:D

Remind me not to wear a red shirt in Thailand this week...

Actually it is probably more important you don't wear a yellow shirt. The people in the north of Thailand are actually supporters of the people behind the red shirt protest. Probably best not to wear either colour.

As for going back to whY once you've flown J, I doubt I could ever go back. Of course a recent points upgrade to F has further complicated matters.

I could take these comments seriously if only you were a 'Pies supporter....:lol:

My J class flight has ended, sadly. Well, not sadly as in a bad flight, but sadly as in I'm back to cattle class for the forseeable future. Here's some thoughts on Emirates J class.

Check in at Sydney airport was seamless although it seemed funny to be served by a contracted check in operator. I can't remember the company but the chap said he did two weeks training for the job and there he was. He was friendly et al.

The Emirates Lounge leaves QF (international) club for dead. Atmosphere, friendliness of staff, tucker (lamb cutlets and those little foreign individually wrapped chocolate thingos) and facilities were first class. Unfortunately I didn't have a whole lot of time to enjoy the lounge, so after a quick bite and a shower I was off to board a shiny Boeing 777.

I can only describe the flight attendants in business class as top notch. They were quiet but there whenever I needed something, friendly but not too talkative and well, very attendant. Top marks to Emirates for staff training.

The ICE system is excellent and again, makes Q look aged, which is most probably is. I think there was something like 1200 programs to scroll through. I didn't get that far through the list but I did manage to watch a couple of movies, something I almost never do, anywhere. I may be wrong but it seemed that these films were highly censored with regard to strong language, and for that I am very pleased. (You may think I'm old fashioned, and you'd be correct. One main reason that I don't normally watch movies is because I detest foul language, inserted into a film just for the sake of it. There was absolutely none in the films I watched which means I didn't have to turn them off after five minutes.) Anyway, this is getting off topic.

Tucker was excellent. Duck and mango for starters, seasoned cod and potato for mains, fruit, cheese and pastries for dessert. Kudos to whoever does Emirates catering in Sydney.

The amenities case given was quality, with Gillette razor included.

The J class seat was interesting. Everything worked (again, take note Qantas, it may be a nice touch to actually install seats that work.) The seat was fairly narrow, and until I reclined after takeoff, pretty uncomfortable. Something to do with the angle I would say. The seat reclined flat, but not completely horizontal. Nothing to complain about there.

What was uncomfortable was the cabin temperature. It was way too hot all the flight. I like to be cold when I sleep, and I like for the room to be dark. Oh well, you can't have everything.

All in all, a very comfortable 9 hours flying, and for $300 less than Qantas' best economy fare at the time of booking. Would I fly Emirates J again? Certainly, if the price was right. Until then, it's back to the back.

Good to see that you had a good experience. Maybe from time to time you can treat yourself to the front of the plane!

Upon arriving into BKK, we have a 5-6 drive to the mission station, then a 10 hour drive to help some nationals in northern Thailand, then back to BKK next week. Nahkon Sawan temperature forecasts are for low-mid 40s (C) this coming week, with humidity, so it should be fun (not).
.
That is making my normal week in the world of commerce feel pretty pointless!

I am glad you enjoyed the flight.

On the temp issue, did you ask for it to be changed, I quite often comment to the FA's if it is too hot or cold and they will normally adjust slightly.

I hope your work there goes well and you are soon back at the front of the plane.

Glad you enjoyed J, welcome to the club...

You are now, like me, cursed to walk past J seats and sit at the back of the plane knowing (not guessing) how nice it is up front.

BTW, in regards to the temp issue, always tell the FA's if it isn't right... The cabin temp is controlled from the coughpit, but it can be different to the coughpit temp, thus pilots can guess on comfortable temps, but don't know if the cabin temp they have selected is comfortable (or uncomfortable) unless they are told.

Enjoy the flight but I hope you know that once you taste J Y will never be the same again.
Actually economy is almost always the same as the last economy flight. That is unless you end up in economy minus which is a definite problem.

With all the travel I want to do I know I can only afford economy so no point crying out for business class. After all the flight is only a small part of the overall holiday. Plenty of time to get over it and just about enough time to think about the flight back. Trying hard to stretch the budget and have already started planning next year's overseas travel....

The cabin temp is controlled from the coughpit,

These days from my experience, the cabin temp is controlled by the cabin service manager.

I understand the plane is divided into several zones and the temp can be adjusted for each zone.

The touch LCD panel on the front wall near the main door controls which controls the lights also controls the cabin temp.

As mentioned, always tell the crew if the cabin is too hot

I will add a tad to this thread.

I flew home last week from BKK in cattle class. (I enquired about upgrading to J but it was going to be $2000 AUD, so I passed on that one!)

Emirates in Y class is like all the rest, except that the seats are the worst I have ever experienced, anywhere. The recline is almost non existent, and the seats are as hard as a park bench. However, they were clean and worked.

The meal out of BKK was excellent, the breakfast however was miniscule. The cabin service was poor. The staff were friendly enough, but after the meal service, they disappeared. The flight was only half full, so there definitely was not much of a work load. I repeatedly pressed the call button to try get some hot water (for my Madura tea bag), but all to no avail. I finally got up and helped myself. I am quite used to snooping around galleys, but there wasn't much to find in Emirates Y class. The ICE system is excellent.

How would I rate EK v QF? On a par. Overall, the staff seemed more friendly than standard QF staff, but they were hard to find. The entertainment system is better, the seats actually work and the 777 is a very quiet aircraft. However, QF seems to have much more comfy seating, at least for someone 5'10" and 90kgs.

Here endeth my story...

Not the first ever business flight, but a big thanks to Enrich and Malaysian Airlines.
booked in Feb for 3 ( 2 X Adults & 1 X 14yo) economy seats Syd - KL - B type seats and return. had enrich points from flights 3 years ago, and enough to upgrade 2 out of the 3 of us for the return leg which was the overnighter. they upgraded the 2 and waitlisted the 1. quickly transferred extra points from Altitude. they'd told me that if family members had already been upgraded then there was a very good chance of the other one happening too. 10 days before flight out, MH rang to say that my seat had been upgraded as well. no mucking around, they re-issued all E-tickets, and it was all easy and simple. i just love "I" class, and MH I class was excellent.
