Question about transiting in KUL

Hello fellow AFFers,

Need the brain trusts to help with my trip.

I want to fly BKK-KUL-BNE on MH. However, the BKK-KUL flight arrives at late night and the KUL-BNE leg departs the next day.

Just wondering:
(a) whether I am allowed to clear immigration without collecting my baggage(I suppose the baggage will be through checked all the way to BNE from BKK?) and leave the airport(stay in outside hotel like KL Sentral) and then go back the next day through immigration again to board the KUL-BNE flight?
(b) if (a) is allowed, is there any additional fees(eg KUL airport tax/security fee etc) I have to pay and where do I pay it?

Yes - no visa needed for Aussies in Malaysia (but there might be an arrival card in *gasp* digital form). No additional tax AFAIK.

FWIW, the Tune hotel at KLIA2 looks decent.

Yes, can do this if your baggage is checked through to BNE.

No additional fee/tax, but don't forget to apply for the official MDAC (Malaysia Digital Arrival Card) any time within 3 days of your flight (3 days including the date of your BKK-KUL leg)

The train is a pretty quick way to get to the city for hotels that don’t charge the airport tax, I did a transit ex HKG and stayed at the Le Meridian at Sentral for $100, but you may find the airport hotels just as easy.

I take the local train to Selak Tinggi (a 5 minute ride and a few dollars) and stay in a decent apartment a ten minute walk away from the station.

Alternatively, you could take a Grab for almost next to nothing.

Just look at booking.com, trip.com, etc.

Yep, Grab right into KLCC for only $20-30 and plenty of options
