This may be a seemingly pointless post, but I'll do it anyway. :)

After 700+ QF flights over the last few decades, and having never flown anything other than economy (& premium economy once), I have booked a J class flight with Emirates, leaving this Wednesday (17/3/10), SYD-BKK.

What are the chances that BKK airport will be closed with a riot and I will miss my flight!!! Oh well, here's hoping.

I may give a report on the Emirates service after I get back.

Enjoy the flight but I hope you know that once you taste J Y will never be the same again.

True I imagine, but as I fly for foreign missionary organisations, keeping costs low is the main factor in all my travels, hence my usual selection of Y class.

In this instance, I got a very good deal on a J class seat.

Enjoy...

But as ejb said, you will shed a tear each time you have to walk past a J seat on your way to Y for every flight subsequent flight. (I know I do)

Enjoy the J experience, but as others have said once you fly J going back to Y is hard to do,

Agree. Once you start flying J, your life will never be the same again ... I started flying J last year, and now everytime I go somewhere I want to at least get 1 leg in J ....

2nd that to everyone else. Once you've had jay, you cant stay away....

I'm beginning to feel bad. Maybe I should swap seats with some poor looking Y class traveller and make their day....

Enjoy! I am sure you will.

And despite J being great (the seat particularly), it is survivable to go back to Y. All a matter of attitude.

Tell that to Mrsdrron!
And ozimax-enjoy your trip.

If I give you my wife's number can you explain this to her please.

Maybe you could invite one into the lounge as your guest.

If that isn't part of the entitlement, you cold try and negotiate them in.

PS: Keep up the missionary work.

Ultimately it is all to do with attitude. Whilst flying in J certainly means more comfort, maintaining your focus on your mission would actually see airline comfort becoming secondary to what you are doing in Thailand. Keep up with your good work!

If you do find J comfortable and want to do this more often, some airlines have on departure upgrade offer which you can ask and pay cash for it. Or if possible, align yourself with selected few airlines to fly and selected credit card to spend to collect airmile points, and redeem for J awards or upgrades, just to make you regular trips more comfortable.

Hi ozimax
I see your in the thread so hopefully you will see this before your flight. As it may be a while between drinks at the J class cup (or trough) I suggest, if you haven't already read some of the other posts and TR's on business class. I enjoyed this one, it has a number of ways to get the most out of your J experience.
"losing my business class virginity on QF?":D
There are plenty of others and head the warnings on what to do or not to do etc. Remember that turning left is a whole new experience but most of us have to turn right some time in our life.

Have a great experience

I am very appreciate of the well wishes here on the AFF forum. I will do my best to enjoy the flight, which shouldn't be too hard!

Upon arriving into BKK, we have a 5-6 drive to the mission station, then a 10 hour drive to help some nationals in northern Thailand, then back to BKK next week. Nahkon Sawan temperature forecasts are for low-mid 40s (C) this coming week, with humidity, so it should be fun (not).

Thankfully there is some aircon in regional Thailand.

Hi ozimax,

Congrats on flying J for the first time. I am currently inthe BKK QF J lounge and the situation her ein BKK si quite safe. The protests on Sunday and Monday petered out and never amounted much, some reports suggetsed less that 100,000 people. The red shirts have promised to not blockade the airports and so far they are strong to their word. As others say once you fly J you will find it hard to go back to Y but enjoy the experience, I have never flown J in Emirates but did fly first once and the experience is execptional. good luck with your work over here.

No probs and thanks for the headsup. I like Thailand, well, not so much the country but the people. They are, in the main, wonderful. I don't know whether you're coming into Thailand or going out, but all the best anyhow.
