Will Qantas have a March 2023 double status credit promotion?

The real boon will be for those booking premium cabins long haul, particularly on OPM. For instance SYD to LHR in Premium Economy as a Gold attracts 24,800 points so a double points promotion would make that 49,600 which is roughly a third of the way to earning Points Club status right there to say nothing of the many international awards and upgrades one could use said points for. And you didn't even need to buy cases of wine for that either! 😂

No because you can only count 20K from flying towards PC/PC+
So not really valuable for that but definitely so for making new award bookings.

Actually I earn a ton of points from flying and I am also PC. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone here.

So not quite true to say that these members don’t earn them from flying.
I agree that the target audience on here PC/PC+ etc and others would probably prefer DSC.

Sure but the core target market for PC and PC+ is actually non frequent flyers (specifcially those that dont pay to fly often, mainly redeem classic Award from points earned on the ground), which is why only a measly 20k of flying points are allowed to contribute to qualifying.

Im not sure that the offer of double points (1600 vs 800 on a SYD-MEL in Y) is that much of an incentive to forward book right up to end of March 24. Anyone with PC+ can easily earn 800 points on a couple of purchases on credit card.

I may be shooting myself in the foot but wont be rushing to make my forward bookings under this offer, lest we see a DSC in late March like we did last year (which is more valuable). The next flight i need to buy is for travel in June, so I can afford to wait it out until end of the month.

Are you across exactly what is being doubled?

Bonus Qantas Points are based on the Base Rate which applies, or the Minimum Points Guarantee if applicable and for the purpose of this promotion does not include any Status Bonus that may apply for tier members.

Also worth considering that anyone who is PC/PC+ and earns a truck load of points from flying will also be able to maximize this promo by using the bonus points to book double the amount of Awards and thus earn SC to supplement their own earned on revenue.

If that was the case, then it wouldn't be called Points Club, it would be called the Qantas Toastie Club since that's about how much your points are worth when redeemed for non-flight awards! 😂

As the earn is only on base points (i.e. what a bronze would earn), there is the ability to redeem more awards certainly but it wouldnt be double if your status is silver or above.

As a WP/P1 you 100% more points on flights which earn over the minimum points guarantee.

So if during this promo you book SYD-SFO in discount J you would earn 22,500 points + 13,500 bonus points (so really just a 50% bonus as status not considered). Those extra 13.5k points may well be very useful for the reasons you state but it doesnt double you redemption capability but will give it a nice boost if that is your goal.

Sounds like this offer will work for you, its less beneficial for me and others who have to fund 100% of our own travel, so cant claim tax deductions for conferences or business meetings etc. When looking for my next job will certainly be wanting one that again includes some work travel.

Nope you obviously missed the PR for PC when it launched, it was all about rewarding big points earners, who earn those points on the ground and fly awards (not paid fares).

Doubt PC+ members are using all those points to buy toasters, they would be more likely getting partner awards where status doesn't come into it.

To be honest, many people don't necessarily care about status even if you're a PC member. It's generally a lot easier the whole concept of earnings points on the ground (and even churning ccs) than it is to work out potentially how to effectively get to SG or above.

Doesn't help people here chasing after easy status retention but this bonus does have it's audience.

It won’t work for me.
I don’t have any significant travel on QF tickets to book during that time period.

Just pointing out that just because it doesn’t work for some people doesn’t mean that it won’t be attractive to other PC/PC+ members.
I’m sure QF have done their research on this and other points promos well outside of AFF.

This particular sale seems more about promoting the resumed route that's been missed for several years than anything to do with status or points.

Both new offers end next week. I still think there's a good chance for a DSC by the end of this month. Possibly after a J sale?

Yes - there's an SFO sale as well, but further along, there was also a double/treble points promo for PC/PC+ members...

Do we think this offer is targeted? Neither my partner nor I have received the email and we are both PC.

It could be but obviously check your Spam box. Might also worth checking your email corro options in your account to make sure you’re signed up to receiving offers and promotions.

Several colleagues mentioned receiving the offer today, so think it was all PC and PC+ members who have correct preferences.

As a PC member, I received the 2 x Points email.

I registered but unless there is a sale I can use before Tuesday unlikely to be of benefit to me.

I also received this offer as a PC, but don't find it particularly compelling. It's not going to be enough points to make a difference in re qualifying, and I'm not that excited about PC anyway.

Silly question and perhaps getting ahead of myself because I'm assuming that a DSC will drop in the next couple of weeks, but if I am including more than one person on the same booking as myself will they also receive DSCs?

I feel like in the past the requirement was just that if both people registered separately and then were booked on the same ticket it they would both get DSCs, but not sure if this is the case.

My partner and I are planning on going on a big trip later this year and I was hoping to get a positive result in the lottery that is cabin upgrades and use Qantas points to get into a premium cabin for the long haul leg. Given her status is not as high as mine I figure we'd have a better chance if we're on the same ticket than if we booked separately (notwithstanding that its easier to upgrade one person than it is two people).

So long as both register before booking and your FF# are on the booking you’re good to go.
