I don't know how many times this has happened but what is it with online bookings where it leads you through a merry chase of entering endless details of the flights you want, all the passenger details then all the payment details for it to just spew out a "computer says no" message with zero explanation why.

Such information, if known, would come in handy before so much time was wasted.

Just did all of the proceeding for a Delta domestic flight including seat selection and it was only on the final "confirm payment" click that I got the message:

  • We are unable to process your request. Please call the Delta Online Customer Support Desk at 1-888-750-3284 for assistance. Customers outside of the 50 United States should contact the Delta Reservations Sales office for their country. #101727R

Is it the credit card? Is it the passengers (some being minors)? Is it that I can't get that fare outside the USA? What? What???

Sorry.

Just had to rant it out here.

Might go and get a cup of tea.

Might go and get a cup of tea.....

Cup of tea is the answer! :)

I completely understand you - the times I have to do bookings I am petrified of losing the connection. But in fairness, I have more confidence punching data into a screen than talking to humans who answer through the cheapest VOIP systems that are available.

And even if it does work perfectly, clicking that submit/confirm button can only occur after you check the US/Aussie date configuration about a dozen times.

Ah yes I love how you are on the phone with them, they have your phone number in front of them, they transfer you or put you on hold for some reason and the call drops out. They NEVER, EVER ring you back. When you call back you get a different person and have to go through the whole story again. The person you spoke to has been abducted by aliens.

I had a case with MH a while back when booking a flight it got all the way past the credit card details, when I got the message my card failed. So I went across to SQ and got a flight. A few months later on my return I checked the CC statement and sure enough MH had billed me. When I spoke to them they would not refund as they considered me a "no show"! I battled for about six months with nothing to show!

Now THAT's irritating!

I've had that crash in the middle of payment before and I think I checked online as soon as I could to see if it had gone through twice. Luckily it hadn't.

That same thing happened to me last week booking a flight from CUN-LAX

In my case I think Westpec rejected it
I tried again with CBA card and it worked.
I emailed Westpac to complain and ask why they would block a major airline like Delta but just got a coughpy generic response

Wow that is a scary story!
I'm off to check my credit card balance!
Thanks for a good lesson. I better double check next time

Booking a flight on Delta last week using a Visa card.

Each time I tried to complete with payment it rejected because the "State" did not match - even though it did - (I checked and rechecked). There was some sort of "Verified by Visa" process attached.

In the end I logged on to my Skymiles account and was able to put the same booking using the Card. The "Verified by Visa" process step had been removed. (During the process I was able to change the frequent flyer entry to my Velocity number.)

I contacted Delta soon after I had the 'fail' via email but never heard back. I tried booking again a day later on a different computer (just by chance) and I held my breath on the final confirmation click which appeared to work and I got the email saying it was all good. Miracles occur.
