We flew J back from NZ last year with our kids. My poor daughter had to wait while at least 10 whY pax used the toilet - and in the end the FA finally held back the tide and let her us the toilet - only to get nasty comments from whY about her pushing in.

FWIW I had told the FA she needed to use the toilets 20 minutes earlier and she was told to wait as there was a queue.

If they enforeced the no whY in J toilets from the start of the flight it woudln't have been an issue.

When I travel in whY I def don't expect to be able to use the J toilets.
That's not really a special need though is it? And - a bit like using a disabled toilet - it's removing that facility from someone who might actually have a valid reason to use it.

I've never understood the 'when you gotta go, you gotta go'. Everyone manages on the train/bus/car to work. A plane is no different.

Perhaps you’re not ageing yet and dealing with the prostate issues that come with it. Over 60s males in particular certainly understand

OT, but those aircraft are now Australian registered...

I stand corrected Blackcat20 .

"In 2018 Jetconnect transferred its fleet of Boeing 737 Aircraft to the Qantas fleet and although it ceased to operate as an Airline in its own right, Jetconnect now employs Cabin Crew and Pilots to operate Tasman services for Qantas."

Last time I flew this sector was 2017.... still the point remains that JetConnect Cabin Crew need to manage this better.

Flying both J & Y I don’t think Y should be allowed to use J facilities but with one exception if there is a small child who desperately needs to go. I flew VA from Cairns to Sydney 2 weeks ago and was impressed they were strongly enforcing the rule even though I was in Y this flight. I’ve seen both on QF

Yes that's exactly what it was ,stop trying to church it up
It was not. You don't know me.

I'll use the front toilet if ok to do so. I'll accept business class headsets. I'll accept business class wine/champagne/sparkling. I'll accept onboard op-ups.

I wont say "Sorry some on AFF think I'm not entitled and shouldn't accept". And by accepting doesn't make me a DYKWIA.

Yeah I s
Can someone please explain why Q staff allow Y passengers to use J toilets on a regular basis?
Not meaning to rant but this is becoming an absolute joke and needs to be attended to by Qantas.
My reasoning:
J passengers pay a privilege to not wait for toilets. (and have dedicated facilities)
J passengers pay for a better seat, food, drinks and service.
Food service is disrupted when Y passengers come into the J cabin.
Status when in Y does not give J privileges.
Toilet location announcement is made by CSM to all pax and who has use of said toilets.
Y pax having been given this directive by CSM are breaching airline policy and directly disobeying Q staff when using J toilets.(which in any other circumstance affords severe penalty)

Would love to hear opinions on this (fully understanding disabled/elderly pax warrant exemption)
TIA :)
yeah I saw this on a recent trip to Christchurch, the curtain must be too inconvenient for the crew. I’ve actually had someone give me a dirty glance because I got up and went to the toilet before they barged past. Maybe a lock system linked to your FF card :)

As I said, better loo experience is not a stated benefit on any airline. You may expect it but be prepared to be disappointed.

On Qantas it may not be a stated benefit, but the rule is clear... 'business class only beyond this point'.

On some other airlines the higher cabin - as a whole - has a stated benefit of privacy. Curtains, ropes or other placards indicate this. .

I saw this thread in the fortnightly newsletter with the first sentence being "Qantas announces at the start of every flight that the up-front toilet is for Business passengers". I can't believe this has 8 pages (so far) of responses, is there a qantas rep on here?

Sure but the "business class only beyond this point" is not strictly enforced. To what degree the cabin crew enforce it is entirely up to them. Whatever they say goes. And if they choose not to enforce it then its OK!, Even better if permission is granted!

Because they probably think you have special needs - otherwise why else would someone ask when it's clearly signposted? Rather than ask you 'why?', they take your word that you have a legitimate need to use the closest WC.

If people start to abuse that, we have members on here with genuine needs that might get disadvantaged. Or be in the emabarrassing position of having to explain, overheard by other passengers, that they have a condition that requires them to use the closest WC immediately.

(I think there's a very easy way to test how the cabin crew's position... on your next flight, preface your request with 'I can't be bothered walking down the back, can I use the front WC?'... see if you still get the same permission)

I fly TT on QF/Jetconnect regularly. Sometimes in J, sometimes in Y, usually row 4.

The inconsistency in how the cabin crew handled the front toilet irked me enough that I had a chat to one of the CSMs I know a bit better.

What they told me is that the official QF policy is to police it and only allow J PAX to use it. The exception is while the cart is blocking the Y cabin and at that stage it's officially endorsed by QF management to let people in Y who are blocked use the front toilet as well.

Any other usage beyond that is fully because cabin crew doesn't police it, doesn't care, doesn't want to have an argument, want to please high status Y PAX in row 4 etc. And yes, they're heavily frustrated with the curtain not being there anymore as well.

Its good to know the official policy is that Y passenger can use J toilet when the cart is blocking the way.

Recent flight sitting in 3B on QF 737 8. 2 people get up from row 4 and walk forward to the lav at the pointy end. I glance back to the rear of the cabin to see if there is a line or trolley in the way. Alas no line, no trolley, no waiting time. So go figure....... To top it off when those 2 finished another from row 4 did the same. Can anyone explain that............
that's the problem IMO - once 1 does it it becomes open slather.

The trick is to discreetly ask nicely. I always ask nicely, and only use another class' toilets when allowed. Ive been allowed more times than not. Ive even been allowed to use the 'ladies' only toilets on the VA 777 one time.

Its the AFF philosophy after all - how to get to the pointy end without having to pay for it...o_O

Wait, WHAT? There are ladies only toilets on flights? Are there mens only toilets on those same flights too?

I have never used toilets that were in business or first if i am flying economy. I always thought you werent meant to and that those toilets are larger and better (maybe they arent, never been). I am surprised people arent stopped by the FAs. But then again this whole entitled thing has only started in australia over the past 5-10 years around the same time the immigration boom happened thanks to government and people started taking up the mentality that its everyone for themselves.

I fly in domestic J only and find this practice a hit and miss, depending on the crew. Biz pax are paying 7 times more than Y pax and should have the privacy of their cabin respected, considering that there are only 12 seats there. By allowing Y pax to use J toilet, these front rows become the same as rows 28, 29 and 30 which are next to the toilets in economy. I do not find it enjoyable when people with toilet smell keep walking past my seat while I am trying to enjoy my meal. If QF want to keep selling J tix and have a separate J cabin then this should also apply to toilets.

I have prostate issues and am in my 40s. It has improved with medications and healthier diet but even during my worst times, I could hold it back for some 10 minutes. It is not like I had to do it right there and then. It is also possible to notify QF about such a medical condition, so the crew knows and will allow a person with medical condition to use the toilet on priority basis.

When I pay business class fares, I expect to have a better loo experience.

lol lol Better Loo Experience, on a Qantas 737? Here is a hint, ALL LOOS ARE THE SAME ON Qantas 737! If anything the front loo is worst than the back loos, which are much newer.

Better loo experience? thanks for the laugh.

But you would hope that a loo that only caters for a dozen or so pax would be in a better shape at the end of a flight than one that sees 10 times the amount of traffic.

A wee bit better by having less wee by the way. :p
Maybe we need to pass a motion to resolve this one way or another?
Or draw cards and hope we get a flush draw.

Is Qantas now providing an ablution "amenity" pack for entitled Y pax? (according to some of the posts in this thread it may not be necessary though as their S#%T doesn't stink)
