Why OH Y? [Y PAX using J lavatories]

I recently see the same...

in QF NZ flights - especially on the 737, it happens. ?

Thats because these flights to and from EnZed are operated by JetConnect .... on NZ registered aircraft

Funny how the Y pax who do it are fine with it but the J pax who put up with it aren't. My opinion? Don't care what your status is. I don't care if you're P1 because your boss flies you away every week. On my flight, if you haven't paid J then you shouldn't get J. Simple as that.

It’s quite simple really.Qantas is copping significant flack already for its use of single aisle planes on the longer domestic flights eg to and from Perth. Some of these flights are close to 5 hours and a lot are at full capacity so the toilet queues can quickly get out of hand. Whatever the reason, a lot of people always want to use lavatories on planes. Easier for Qantas to send people up front and deal with a bit of backlash from business travelers than have to deal with many many disgruntled Y’s who will complain about not being able to access a toilet in a timely manner! Bring back the planes that can deliver a comfortable flight for all!

I don't recall any advertising and marketing for J that mention J toilets are reserved for J passengers.
When did J passengers get the expectations that waiting for toilets is not a J thing?
If the Y passengers are told at the beginning that the main cabin toilets are at the rear and then later they come to the front and the CSM does not stop them, then that can be assumed to be tacit permission to use the front toilets.

As I said before I have used F,W,Y toilets when J (and J when Y). So I am very happy for Y passengers to come up to use J toilets. Did not get a finger wag from CSM ot cabin crew either.

I suspect that this continues because very few actually complain about this and also the PB non-issue. QF has been known to change dress code on the basis of customer feedback about the lounges. but the non action in this matter maybe points to the fact that very few see it as an issue.
Pfft very funny how it's always people like you, trying to get something they haven't paid for, who condone this kind of behaviour. Stay back in Y and use what you have paid for, I bet you are the kind of sad soul that sits at a lounge entrance begging to get in when you aren't entitled to.

Frankly if someone needs to go they need to go and I don't mind them using the toilet no matter what class they are flying.

The alternative is this...

Spot on well said !

No it's not and you know it.

@MEL_Traveller goes as far as saying economy passengers should think about going to the toilet in the terminal just in case they need to go when the food cart is out and not disturb the entitled sitting at the front.

Its just a toilet.
Yes that's exactly what it was ,stop trying to church it up

I saw that virgin puts up a little belt between the classes -but obviously most flight attendant are too lazy to use the device hence they opt out-that would be a deterrent fact to invade the only 1 toilet for business class-who pays 3-4 times more than those whining Y passengers who feel they can invade and take whatever they want!-If you want to use the facilities pay for it-for short flights please have a toilet session before you board the plane-unless you suffer from prostate or whatever problems you should be able to ride out a 2 hour flight without the toilet.-I used to be a flight attendant myself and it was the first thing as the plane lift off-everybody attacked the loos! give me a break!!!

Yes, this is what I point out to before, it would be a nightmare if someone else leaked... especially on the way walking from J to the Y toilets !

Also, the focus of this country now is "the quiet majority", if Qantas is so rude to Y passengers about the J toilets in front of all the J passengers and all of the Y passengers, "the quiet J" pax may not like it and have an bad impression on Qantas....

and... some of the Y passengers will have such a negative impression on Qantas, they will just pick a one class airline in the future (or one without such straight rules)... or they will just hate Qantas for life and choose not to fly Qantas premium classes in the future - should the situation arises...

I fly J sometimes, and personally J toilets should be "priority" for J passengers, if there is a queue for the J toilets, the queue should be just J pax.

just like business class check in counters, if they are empty and the Y queue is so long they will check in Y pax too !

The alternative is this...

The sign is likely connected to the WC in the rear of the business class cabin, rather than the forward cabin (same same in economy, where the bulkhead WC signs actually refer to those furhter back, not forward).
Could be right and I always use the area I am assigned, just half asleep on this occasion. But also this could be due to Boeing placing signs near all toilets as airlines decide the fit out or a need to be flexible later. Signage that day indicated one free and one occupied and was the case when entering. Anyway my mistake but uptight Qantas steward carried on.

VA are pretty good in this space. Even “protecting” overhead lockers etc.

Air Asia are fantastic. No negotiations no sneaking in. The curtain behind the 12 lieflats seems to be made of kryptonite.

The odd one that does wiggle through gets marched back out again.

Recent flight sitting in 3B on QF 737 8. 2 people get up from row 4 and walk forward to the lav at the pointy end. I glance back to the rear of the cabin to see if there is a line or trolley in the way. Alas no line, no trolley, no waiting time. So go figure....... To top it off when those 2 finished another from row 4 did the same. Can anyone explain that............

Don’t worry about me, I have entry entitlement and when I don’t its no biggie as the non-lounge scene is often better.
It’s all about getting something for nothing.

You're wrong. MANY see this as an issue. When I pay business class fares, I expect to have a better loo experience. If I were in economy I would not act entitled to anything in business class. It detracts from others' experience in J and I encourage you to think about others' rights as well as your own.

Again - what rule?

You will find no written rule about this anywhere.

Most intra cabin “rules” such as this one fall within the “obey cabin crew instructions” rule. They make up whatever rules they want. Obviously some rules are defined or regulated by a higher authority. However it is also within the gift of the CSM to change those rules.

I don’t know why a Y passenger disturbs a J passenger meal service when a J passenger using the toilet does not. Must be the “great unwashed” smell.
Poor Quickstatus, your low self esteem is showing. You're trying to make J pax look bad for paying for a service, while you don't have the funds to pay and so sit at the back and throw stones. I'm embarrassed for you, but I'm giving you the free psychological advice anyway (you said you wanted something for nothing).

How do you know I don’t pay for J (cash or points). As I said, better loo experience is not a stated benefit on any airline. You may expect it but be prepared to be disappointed.

And I don’t need free advice because you see I’m not the one who is all offended and hot under the collar about this topics:p:p

And in I’m in a premium, I welcome everyone not of that cabin to come and use the loos.

It's so sad that in Australia, with so many people just unwilling to follow basic rules and apply common courtesy, they have to do things like put curtains or a rope as a further visual reminder what not to do, even after being advised via the PA. Just doesn't happen in most asian countries and places like Germany, mind you those places aren't full of so many people trying to play dumb, or take the piss to get something they haven't paid for for free like we are.
