Why Oh Why

Yes. But not in my day. I will try some out this holiday break. My mum thought cooking a curry meant adding Keens curry powder and sultanas.

Mine would throw in some brown sugar as well to make sure it was sweet.

My Mum's special was curried sausages. The sausages were boiled until they reach a wonderful grey colour, and then the inimitable Keens was added in very small quantities. I didn't know what curry was until I went to a mates place for dinner when I was about 15. They had been in East Africa for many years where curry was used to cover a multitude of imperfections in the available meat products. It was hot and yet fragrant - and turned my taste buds in a whole new direction.

I had to wait until I was in first year Uni.Walked from Sydey Uni to Wynyard to catch a bus home.My friend one day said lets stop at the Malaya on George street for a curry.I wasn't keen (pun intended) but he insisted. It then became a weekly stop.

The original restaurant has once again become a Malaysian restaurant known as the Malaya on George and is not the same.

OT...but you brought back a lot of fond memories!!

My mum does a great curry with sultanas, banana and coconut in it.

Anyway. After The Wing we went to The Cabin. I really liked this one. It was quite dark which was perfect for someone who was exhausted. We found a pair of seats facing the window and just watched the world go by for a while. Except there was some tosser on his phone pacing up and down. He seemed to see my glare, make a quick about turn but then somehow end up back near us.

Was very happy to see some champagne (Moët).

Rather amusingly, we spotted 'Ampu-roo' out the window after also seeing it in Melbourn

Then after The Cabin we went to The Bridge. This one is known for its bakery, though as far as I could see, the bread is all display only.

I love that the door to the washrooms is just a panel in the wall and easily missed if you aren't looking for it.

We chilled for a bit with a couple of coughtails.

Seems like lounge crawls in HKG are the thing to do. Great way to pass the time. Hopefully the coughtails will help you nap/pass out on your next flight.

Is ampu-roo the new QF design?? I saw him maybe a week ago in BNE. I should have snapped a shot as there was another old roo close by. Much better for seeing differences than online pics but it was nice to see in person. I like the fact the paint job makes the plane look new.

Yes, the new one. Funnily enough we caught up with it again in Tokyo! It looks far better in person.

The last lounge for the evening was the Pier. I can see why this one might be considered the best of the lot. Large, lots of different spaces depending on your mood. A noodle bar and a tea room. We found a nice spot to curl up on a couch for the last hour of our wait. After some noodles of course.

You didn't mention it BC so I presume the sinuses coped ok?

Mostly. A bit dry on THE flight to HKG but coped well on the Dreamliner to ORD. The cold weather is making me a bit sneezy.

Just settling in with this gem:

Well the snow quite literally vanished overnight. Waiting for it to snow again on Thursday. It's currently -3 with an apparent temp of -9

So our CX flight from HKG was pretty meh. Seats were more like what you'd find on a bus, and the meal came in a gift bag! The dinner was a sour chicken lattice; it was barely edible. Luckily we slept the whole way.
