Re: The Irony: Comparison of QFF Flights and buying them normally!

I've got XP on the desktop, Vista on the laptop, and Win7 on the netbook... you can tell which is the newest :)

Sure, I'm running XP... on a Virtual Machine inside my Mac
Have a couple of Win Apps (Quicken and Quick Books) that I haven't found Mac equivalents for yet, so sticking with XP until EOL.

Re: The Irony: Comparison of QFF Flights and buying them normally!

I still use XP to run Windows applications (inside a VM like Paddy55)

Why? It's what I was using when I switched to Mac OS X and I never really had a reason to upgrade. I rarely use it these days as I've found Mac replacements for basically everything.

On a related note, I was at a Microsoft event a few years back when one of the guys I knew from MS came up to me for a quick chat and noticed I was using OS X on my Mac. He walked away and came back a minute or so later, popped a NFR (but boxed) copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on the table where I was sitting and said "here, this will run on that".

I think it's still in its box at home somewhere :)

Two main reasins for running XP on a MAC: Etax is windows only. Webmail cant seem to be run in the full version unless using IE.

Re: The Irony: Comparison of QFF Flights and buying them normally!

XP on my desktop (though it is dead at the moment - power supply I suspect), Vista on the laptop (currently serving as the desktop) and 7 Starter on the netbook. I kinda like XP, but in reality i just have what came with each computer. They serve my purposes so far.

It doesn't seem that long ago (probably 10 years in reality) that I had to hunt high and low at work for a PC which used 5 1/4 inch floppies, in order to make some copies for someone.

I have three laptops. Win xp, win vista and 7.

I was using win 7 at my last corporate but was on an soe trial. Afaik they still haven't moved past an extended pilot.

Current employer is xp altho i am working with the win 7 project on some stuff so could get it of i really cared.

What people don't realise is how difficult it is to roll out new operating systems in big corporates. It is definitely not as simple as you going to Harvey Norman and buying a new laptop.

We still use XP on all the computers at work.

It is the only OS that runs all of our programs and has no issues at all.

The computer shop where I buy all of the computers from are always trying to talk me into a new OS but I keep buying the computers and get them to reload XP on it.

They did break me one day and said we will make all your programs work on 7 and after an hour or so conceded and then loaded XP for me.

Sounds like my boss, who complains about the lake of tape players in cars!

Dare I say 'cry me a river'? :)

Frankly, XP works. Win 7 is a memory hog and has some horrible 'features' that I cannot abide by. And the new Office suite is just cough with the so called 'dynamic ribbon' where all the useful features are well hidden and take many extra clicks etc to find.

A typical enhancement where the user is stuffed up.

Re: The Irony: Comparison of QFF Flights and buying them normally!

My brother is using my old XP laptop so I am not using it! :p

I am though using my old Vista laptop now that it is fixed. I used to hate Vista but that was until Windows 7 arrived. ;)

My new(ish) Windows 7 laptop is gathering dust after it got fixed early January and I also purchased a refurbished Vista machine that now has XP on it.

Hopefully these will last me for a few years to come until something like XP comes around again.

Imagine if someone asked for a fresh install of Windows 98 ?
Is it possible? My brother would be over the moon....

Don't like them apples....

JohnK - what is it about OSX/iOS that you don't like?

I know Mal doesn't like the way that Apple controls the users and he sees there being an unnecessary premium in the product.

I am genuinely interested - I was never a fan of OSX before I used it and now wouldn't dream of going back to Windows.

I'd like a fresh install of Windoes ME (now that was a dog)

Re: The Irony: Comparison of QFF Flights and buying them normally!

You old timers, we've been on the developers' (and now consumer) preview of Win8 for months ;)

Personally I hate it (love win7), but mr sheep swears by it. And he's the boss when it comes to technical things, so I do as I'm told.

edit: and QLD health still uses IE6, so XP doesn't look so ancient!

Sigh, oh for the days when life was simple.....DOS 2.1 or even CoCo basic.

Our household (4 PCs and 2 laptops ... for umm, 3 people) is all Windows 7 x64. Love Windows 7.
I may laugh about people still using XP now, but if the consumer preview of Windows 8 is anything to go by, I suspect we'll be on Windows 7 for a long, long time yet

I'm in the same boat.
