Where's everybody spending Christmas Day?

I'll be spending my Christmas day the same place as I have for all but one of my years on this planet.

PER - Typically one of the worst places in the world to be on Christmas day, with stinking hot weather, and of recent years, ever increasing humidity.

When I moved away from PER back in 2000 I made a promise to myself to always spend Christmas with my parents for as long as they were around. That was my promise and had nothing to do with them. I guess I felt like a bad son moving to the other side of the country when they were away for 3 months in Europe (I wasn't living at home either).

The only other Christmas was spent with my parents in my fathers home town deep in the south of Holland and I still didn't get a white Christmas. It snowed the day before I arrived, and the day after I left. Typical really (and I was there for nearly 3 weeks too).

Next years plan is to have family Christmas on the 23 DEC (it's usually the 24th due to my brother, his wife and kids, doing their family Christmas on the 25th), flying out to the USA on the early morning 24th, to spend Christmas in NYC for my friends 30th with a group of us going. I should be living in BOS by that stage with any luck!

But for this year, Air Conditioning and avoiding PER's summer will be the order of the day:)

I'll be in Kent in the UK. I believe it will be very cold... Then I fly to Switzerland for 5 days then back to London for NYE... Unless Slow becomes a problem.

Hmmm, because we have 3 families involved in our Xmas (as Mrs LW's parents are divorced and her father has re-married - so I am lucky enough to have 2 M-i-L's). We generally have had a Wilson family Xmas lunch or dinner the week before, however not this year.

Xmas Day will probably be lunch at our place with Mrs LW's father and his wife, and Mrs LW's brother, wife and daughter - we'd rather have the day at our place and not have to move our kids. We all cook one course and I supply wine/beer/soft drink. Traditional English fare with Yorkshire puds :D

I think this year we'll see my M-i-L either Xmas Eve or Boxing Day - I think we're still waiting to find out which day she's not working (at Australia Zoo).

I'm working 0500-1430 on Xmas Day but have a 5 day break 26-30 Dec. SO is working in BNE that week but back in DRW on 27 Dec albeit still working up here at other job on his 'days off'.
Would he like to pick up his AFF Golf Trophy, suitably engraved?

I'm fortunate enough to love both my M-i-L's and the feeling is mutual. But 3, yes, you take the cake, Mr Katie

I'll be flying to the USA on xmas day. I also arrive in the US on christmas morning as well. I think I will be having a 40 odd hour christmas day in total.

I don't mind a white Xmas. I'll be travelling SYD-HNL-LAS on the 24th (HA business) ETA LAS around 11:00 pm. Will leave LAS on 31st at 00:10, ETA SYD 19:20.

For the 1st time in 3yrs, Mrs wtolmie and family and i will be home in Sydney!! Will be missing the white christmas in Milwaukee this year. Dont know if i can handle summer this time of year. Hehe.

Im flying in from PVG (QF130-J) on Tuesday and they are arriving to Syd via ORD on QF108 Y+.

Hope you all have a safe and wonderful Christmas with your familes no matter where in the world you are!!!

Will be spending my first Xmas in Australia since 2000 chez les parents on the Gold Coast. Should be excellent but nothing beats the festive season in Paris or Rouen where I've spent it since then.

Le vin chaud, les marchés de Noël with vin chaud every 20 metres or so, amazing concerts on TV and in various venues and without the ikky kitsch stuff we seem to get here, a few centimetres of snow on the ground last year. More this year.

No Boxing Day in France, much like I believe it is here now, but they enjoy strike days in lieu. :p

Joyeux Noël à tous.

Home in Sydney.

Breakfast with the kids, son-in-law and grand-daughter.
Lunch with 10 other rels.

All good, but it's a long day.
Traveling as others are doing sounds very appealing.

Paddy

First post for me after I have finally made the switch from simple viewer to member, so pretty exciting, but forgive me if I don't get all the terminology right ;)
Anyway, if nothing unexpected happens we (hubby, me and our 6 year old daughter) will be enjoying a CX flight in business from Cairns to Hong Kong ( Jippieh!). We have been squirrelling away QFF points for that for a while and managed to get 2 tickets on points, but had to buy the one for our little girl. We didn't really plan to fly X-mas day but that was the only available flight on points around this time of the year and now we are thinking, nothing better could have happened, as we, or especially I, won't have to prepare anything, we are just going to do the presents in the morning, have a swim in the pool and then head to the airport for our afternoon flight.
From previous experience, a LH economy flight from Tokyo to Munich on 24th Dec, which is Christmas day for Germans, I don't expect anything special from the crew, but they were very relaxed on that flight, as there were only about 30 pax on board and they had a pretty cruisy time while, hopefully, raking in a good pay and we all had 4 seats each, that way even economy isn't too bad on a long haul.

Will be having my first cold christmas at a friends parents place here in London.

Flying to my hometown in a 767*

Forecast I have to look forward to

Saturday Very hot. Sunny. Min 23 Max 38

*Apologies to Skyhooks.

With an opening line like that I better say welcome to AFF dRossi.

Have fun in Hong Kong. Last time I was there I stayed at a Disneyland hotel. Great fun even if it's away from the action.

I am also doing the never ending Christmas Day thing. Flying SYD-NRT on Christmas Eve, overnight at the Nikko at NRT, then NRT-JFK-BOS on Christmas Day, leaving just before lunch from Tokyo, and arriving in time for Dinner in Boston.

I figure the Flagship Lounge at JFK will be the location for Christmas Lunch :)

NYE in Vegas, then a couple of days in Aruba and New York then home.

Richmond near Nelson, NZ at my sister & BIL's place with my mother and who else of the family show up. Have a flight to NZ but yet to book a return Normally book a NZ-Aust on Xmas day
We are actually staying in Tahananui-so just down the road.Windy Eh!
Crayfish have been displaced-not worth $NZ115 a kg.So instead today I went out and caught a couple of salmon-had the smoked and all up $NZ25 a kg.Plus lashings of fresh berries and cream.
And just out of interest having a bottle of Climbing Pinot Gris-much cheaper here than back home in Australia.

Well its Christmas day now for me - I have just read this thread at work,

its 150am in Sydney.

I finish my 12 hour shift at 7am so home to bed for some much needed sleep.

Due at my significant others cousins place for dinner at 1430, she does a great traditional roast meal, and is a very special person, so thats no hardship.

Maybe then call in and see some close friends (chosen family) who said they were doing open house.

Otherwise home to a peaceful evening with the significant other.

Very envious after reading this tread, between Golden Bay in NZ - to a snowy scene in Europe, or a nice sun drenched beach in Thailand or the Phillipines.

Would prefer as always be travelling........

Last year we woke up in the Hunter Valley and headed back to SYD for lunch with old friends.

Feeling a little down this year, Xmas is no big deal for me, but my Mum would have been 90 on the 23rd if she was still with us, (she passed April 2009), and we would have been in CHC helping her to celebrate.

I just get so over the commercialisation of the holiday season, it drags on for ever, and most people in the shop seem unhappy...... and in my job its just domestic, after neighbour dispute, after domestic followed by a couple of deceased...... Just another day in paradise.

Anyway Happy Holidays to all - and may the spirit of goodwill to all humanity be spread around 365 x 7 during 2011.

As always would prefer to be walking down a concourse with my passport stamped departed Australia and a J or F boarding pass in my hand.
