I've found the 3M earplugs provided in the new Qantas First class amenity kit to be really good quality. They block out a lot of noise without hurting your ears.

Was wondering if anyone knows where I could buy some of these exact earplugs individually?

Check out the "Quality ear plugs" forum. You can get soft foam earplugs in lots of places such as Bunnings or pharmacies. They are all much the same. You could try going to a building site where there is usually a very large container of them!

The bog standard yellow ones at industrial sites can be a bit rough. Some don’t even taper!

I would say that from an ear-comfort point of view, not all acoustically good soft foam earplugs are equally comfortable, as @Mattg indirectly said. For instance, of the many I've used, I'm so glad I bought a massive box of Hearos in the US about... 15 years ago..., cos those babies are the ones I can wear for longer than any other ones I've tried before my ear canals start to ache.

What I see is people don't roll earplugs before insertion into the ear meaning that they do not receive the full benefit of the noise suppression.
This could be a whole story on news.com(.au)!!

Thousands have been using this product wrong the whole time!

A viral clip has shocked hundreds of travellers after discovering the correct way to use the earplugs handed out with airline goodie bags: squeeze and tightly roll first, then allow them to expand in to your ear.
