I recently visited the Qantas Domestic lounge at Melbourne airport and was disappointed at the welcome we received. I had the boarding passes in my hand and smiled and handed them to one of the two staff at the entrance. My partner's boarding pass ( silver member) was on top and mine underneath ( gold member). I was met with the frosty question " And who is the member here ?" I answered, " That would be myself". I felt like I was trying to fraudulently gain entry. Its not much to ask to look at the second boarding pass. Or maybe I expect too much. Customer service could and should be greatly improved.

Your expectations are too high :(

Been there done that.

They see a parade of people "trying it on".

I first had lounge access in 1994 and have seen it all, including been treated like the OP on a couple of occasions.

I learned within a few years it simply smoothed things to make it easier for all.

So with the situation of multiple BP I make a points of putting the lounge access eligible BPs in top.

You should have only presented your BP with Gold status. Your wife's BP is not necessary as you can bring in a non travelling guest... #devil's advocate. ;)
Yes. Immediately assumed that a Silver (shudder) member was trying it on. 😳

Imagine if you had put a Bronze BP on top, or even *shudder* a QFF non-member.

Do passengers who aren't eligible ever just continue marching in to airport lounges (including QFs')? I've not observed it anywhere although once one enters, the reception can be separated from the lounge, or not within hearing distance.

Has anyone ever observed what then occurs? Security somehow requisitioned and the person(s) tracked down and escorted out?

It is only the regular lounge, I'm not sure why you are expecting so much. This is pretty standard for Qantas I've found in my time entering. You rarely get a "warm welcome".

It varies. Canberra is usually very welcoming (although not always). Sydney can be a bit grumpy. I must admit when you do get a smile and a welcome it does make you feel warm and fuzzy towards the airline.....
