Where did you visit for its geographical significance?

I like this thread. It’s giving me some great ideas of places to go visit.

Burke and Wills most northernmost camp, after they agonisingly feel just short of crossing the continent.

Way back in my 20's with my ten girlfriend, now wife we roughly retraced the whole Burke and will route including the more famous "Dig Tree" to return to our home town of Melbourne

Prior to that we drove to the "Tip" as one of my grandmothers was born there after he gold prospecting father travelled across from PNG. One of her brothers dying on Thursday Island, and was buried in the cemetery there which we also visit. Nan as child travelled around Oz by Ox and Dray! And did she have some great stories to tell.

Visiting significant mountains is my favourite geographic goal. I’m currently working my way through a couple of Peakbagger lists, the most famous of which are Tasmania’s Abels. To be an Abel, mountains need to be higher than 1,100m above sea level and be separated from other mountains by a drop of at least 150m on all sides. Home - The Abel Mountains

Just visited Slope Point - the most southern point* of the South Island of NZ.

Quite appropriately, it’s at the end of a sheep paddock that abuts cliffs!

It’s well below the southern tip of Tassie!

*the most southerly point of NZ is a good few degrees further south into the Southern Ocean!

Visited the same spot in 2012. There's a geocache there, or there was back then when I was doing that with one of the Warklings.

Pointe Vénus (Point Venus) which has multiple claims to fame. Being near the safe entrance to Tahiti - it was the place where the first Europeans entered and of course where Captain Cook observed the transit of Venus before heading off on an extraordinary voyage of exploration and navigational excellence.



It’s also (no surprise), the same spot where Bligh landed on his infamous voyage.

My Dad lives down in Tassie and had been collecting Abel points over the years. Some of the trips he and others did to go climb a specific mountain seemed very difficult; especially those in the south west.

I visited Kill Devil Hills as a very specific geographical location!

Also visited the (formerly named) town of F##king in Austria. That wasn’t for a geographical reason though… just pure puerile behaviour.

Yeah it’s a challenge for sure. A few months ago I walked for 6 long days for one Abel. I like to alternate between collecting peakbagging points and frequent flyer points, which are pretty much polar opposite activities, but equally satisfy my point-collecting tendencies

I haven't been but stumbled on this geographic quirk in UAE one day.

UAE has an enclave Nahwa within an Oman enclave which is within UAE "proper".
