Rest in planning stages

2018 looks to be our quietest year ever for international travel as we have decided we have to suck it up and do US citizenship and that could take all of 2018 to accomplish. We decided in lieu we will try and do some fun road trips. So far I’m thinking I’ll do a month in Honolulu as I want to strengthen my swimming skills and I’m a cold water wimp. We also have a wedding in Vegas in July. Likely we will do a road trip up to Portland late summer.

Booked in the past week: Bhutan, Nepal & India for September.
We leave today for a 3 night cruise out to sea departing Sydney.

I've got Europe booked for May 2018. Cathay First into LHR and then fly Qatar First out of Paris two weeks later. The plan is to visit Greece primarily and maybe a bit of time in either Scotland, France or Croatia too.
I'm tossing up either using points for another F trip to Europe in the second half of the year or paying for return J with AY as I'll need to retain QF SG somehow between Aug 2018 and July 2019. :) Depends how quickly I can build up the points.
I'm sure I'll visit Queenstown for a long weekend at some stage too.

Haven't been to Europe since 2014. In the planning stage atm, is to to head to Europe in May/June 2018 for 3x weeks.
Brief stop in Prague/Vienna to visit some friends then head to Madrid, Lisbon, Bratislava (to visit girlfriends family), the last week head to Stockholm, Helsinki and Tallinn before back to Sydney.

May plan a side trip to Perth for a few days in Feb 2018.

Vietnam in March for a 10 day stretch is the only confirmed trip we have.

Although we hope to do a road trip in January to Esperance so MrsGM can launch her book.

If work surprises me I might be spending a couple weeks on the Gold Coast in April.

After that I have vague hopes of a week or so in Melbourne at some point for some footy.

And if we can get ourselves a little more financially stable - we might try to pull off a "fantasy idea" trip to Hawaii later in the year.

Update...

No Gold Coast sadly.
And after reviewing the footy fixtures I may give Melbourne a pass.

But MrsGM has just booked another trip to Singapore in May. Not sure what dates but I'm sure I'll find out when I need to know.

TQ

We have been to Croatia twice in past 4years, loved it did Zagreb, Plitvice lakes and Split, went on a near new 40Pax Ship (MV President) to 7 islands (there are 1100), had best time with guests (over 50Y), inc land tours, good View attachment 109379 food. These small ships go right into the town docks.

That’s the one we are on in May!

If the same food bar attendant (Andre) is on board your on a winner, its like he's on roller skates. Now Pushka one of the best places we've ever visited in our world travels over decades was the town Bol on the Island of Brac and the MV President goes there (or it did in 2014), now if you can tear yourselves away from the magnificent beach out on the point then go visit the brilliant winery there, oh man Im jealous :)

so here are a couple of pics..

I took advantage of the Jetstar free-return-trip offer and booked the Luxury Escapes Grand Hyatt Bangkok/ Hua Hin 10 night offer next year, using up my $799 credit with Luxury Escapes from a cancellation this year. It seems like a good deal, compared to booking the same nights through Booking.com which was costing around $1700 more for the same thing. I also used up my Amex credit booking an extra night at the same hotel, figuring we'd want two full days in Bangkok rather than just the one with came with the tour.

Will be having a short eight or nine week vacation to northern Italy and Croatia later in the year.

Renato

Nothing else booked, but I'm always looking.

A hint for you - if you go to Istria in northern Croatia from mid September onwards, or to southern Croatia (Split and areas adjacent Dubrovnik like Lapad) from late September, there is still plenty of nice weather around, but accomodation prices plummet by around 100 Euros a night at lots of places. This is because most of the Germans finish their vacations and go home. Of course, some places don't drop their prices much, but a quick check of Booking.com will show the ones that do.

Croatia is a great place to drive around in compared to Italy - wider roads and hardly any nutty drivers. The only problem is that most major car rental companies won't let you drive from Croatia to Greece, since driving in most former Eastern bloc countries (with the exception of Slovenia and Croatia) is not allowed, and you are uninsured if you do. Which is a problem if one drives down from Split to Dubrovnik, since for 20 kilometers one has to drive through Bosnia and the resort town of Neum. I drove very carefully through that 20km stretch, hoping that no one would run into me.

Renato
