When to stop being loyal to an airline (QANTAS)

Although at this stage, I don't think the OP cares much about how green the grass is on the other side given the current patch here has been blow torched.
LOL.

I sort of had the same feeling when Qantas were removing Platinum benefits every month.

Purchasing points with BMI was great while it lasted and US Dividend miles and AAdvantage were OK when AUD was riding high but I realised I wanted to travel as cheaply as possible but still have the trimmings that go with it.

SQ economy without status is not enjoyable and a little bit more bearable with Velocity Gold but until recently Velocity Gold required a lot of domestic travel and that would make me go crazy as the grass was ripped out a while back.

So Qantas it will be with a little SQ economy here and there.

I'm starting to look at going the other way, as I'll be reducing international travel. The +1 would rarely fly by herself (if at all) and is happy to pool the status. I'll know more in a few months but if I do switch, at least I have *A gold till early 2017 to facilitate the lounge access when I'm building VA status on SQ metal. Not that QF hasn't been good to me, but there are different products for different people, and as life changes, the most suitable products may also change as well.

I have been a Platinum Qantas loyal FF for a few years - I am really p'd off by Qantas' now asking for $60 for an exit seat on transcontinental flights, even from their most loyal customers.

Were I not "locked in" to Qantas by having acquired credits and points I would seriously consider changing to Virgin, who do fly most of my routes, but it would mean starting at the bottom of the pile once again.

Thanks Mr Leprechaun for p'ing of a very loyal customer. Enjoy your bonus.

You'll find that the exit row seat fees will be similar with VA. Though if you do consider switching you could always buy lounge access and receive a pro-rata refund for the lounge membership when you receive gold status. It doesn't come with all the perks of status obviously, but it makes the transition more bearable..

Monoccular I hear your pain when it comes to Exit rows that also really totally pi**ed me off. I did ring to get an exit row and they did and despite not being P1 book an exit row at no extra charge.(successful only once) I agree we were robbed of this benefit.

Argh, the signs of a great argument;

1 - threatening to switch to a rival who also charges to add extra leg room seats to a booking

2 - referring to the CEO has a leprechaun even though he may be an Australian citizen.

Whilst I don't disagree with you on the $60 charge, why stoop to the irrelevant name calling argument?

While my reasons are different, I'm lucky to enough to have a *A gold from a status match, valid to 2017. Just booked my first SQ flight with it, and will send the miles to VA. Should be almost VA gold or plat by the time I'm ready to move back to Australia.
