What's your Uber experience?

I don't give out tips and I've never really had an issue with any driver, though I can attest to probably getting one low rating when I booked an Uber trip for my mom and the driver and my mom had a disagreement about politics and social issues that the driver had brought up.

This thread has been very quiet for a long time.

I've been catching a lot of Uber/Ola/Didi recently and almost every driver has taken off as soon as I've got in the car and haven't waited for me to get my seat belt. They are not driving sedately so sometimes it takes me more than 500m before I can get my seat belt on.

I tend not to rate drivers unless they are really good or really bad - the meh ones I just ignore but I'm starting to think this is a safety issue.

Anyone's thoughts

I’ve gone off uber for getting to the airport in Melbourne. Nothing worse than having a booking only to see the driver travel away from you and then reject the booking 🤬

Used Uber for 5 different rides during our recent break. Hadn't used them for ages. All good rides, good conversations when prompted and no concerns with seatbelts or getting bags from the boot etc. The worst aspect was finding the Adelaide Airport pick-up-I expected some decent sized signs

My Uber driver this morning was a Qantas FA, who used to fly the SYD-DFW route on the A380 but was stood down without pay. Lots of interesting chatter.

I haven't had the seat belt issue, I find if you have a pick up spot where they can legally pull over without fear of a fine i.e. not a no standing zone or busy main road then they will happily wait till you get settled.

Try putting your seat belt on before you shut the door. Hopefully that will slow them down :D

DUH - hadn't thought of that. I'll try that next time. One time one really p!ssed me off and just popped the boot for me to get my luggage out and glowered at me and didn't move. I got my luggage and said thank you and walked away but whoops forgot to close the boot so he had to get out after all

We weren't in a hurry in any of the instances - also virtually no conversation just their cough music at full bore

I've almost given up. I actually used a taxi the other day returning from the airport

I both live and work reasonably close to the airport and now most drivers seem to reject my ride when they see the location. Didn't use to happen but maybe now most drivers multi-app its easy to do. Frustrating when 3 or 4 in a row do it. Get home quicker just jumping in a cab straight away.

Ironically I moved quickly to uber because of the attitude of taxi drivers who didn't want to drive me short distances...

I've been getting a lot of cancelations when trying to get a pick up from the airport. Not sure what triggers the cancelation though - unless they somehow work out that its only going to be a $20 fare.

I agree. If they're safe and not driven like we are in the Redex trials I always give 5 stars. I'm Gold with Uber so I generally get better cars and some deals such as cheaper comfort cars than Uber XL.

Are there any Uber Diamond members here?

I rarely take the black premium cars - not sure why is that? I'll bring this up with my shrink and revert.

I was uber Diamond pre covid, but wfh for 10 months dropped me back to no status. Im back to platinum now, but my 6 month window just reset this week so depends on work whether i get back to Diamond by Nov qualification cut off.

I dont pay extra for comfort but do get free upgrades a lot and mostly top drivers.

Cairns airport. I had a vague idea where the pick up area was - lucky, as I saw zero signs and had to ask someone ( as did the guy in front of me). Car into town . 22 mins away!!! WTF?

I’ve never had a bad driver ( not a big user, mainly Hobart) but he’s coming in from about 4x the distance of the fare
