Hmmmm....short hotel stays....
I've learnt from hard experience that unless you are actually going to
be in the hotel room for a decent amount of time, then don't bother booking it, or book the absolutely cheapest room you can find. (That is, if you are booking a room and are going to be in it for about 8 hours, great. No good checking in for a 24 hour stay then only being in the room - let alone the hotel - for a mere 2 hours!)
Having said that........ AFF Gather #1. Booked into MEL Hilton OTP, a rather hasty booking and a bit exorbitant. Total time spent in hotel: about 4.5 hours, and that's an optimistic guess. Got 3000 QFF points out of it, but still a hard lesson learnt. I guess I should've gone straight back to the hotel after the dinner on Saturday night, but other things were done instead.........
I once used the hotel in KLIA (KUL). RM140 for a standard (not the cheapest) room for
six hours only. Needless to say, I really didn't get enough sleep. Since I wasn't earning a wage at that time (my parents paid for this room - and they are tight), it wasn't the greatest value for money (they would only pay for 6 hours, which meant I had to check out about 4 hours before my flight out of KUL

). In some respects, RM280 for a 12 hour layover isn't too bad if you really need a room of sorts - respectable rooms (but don't expect a view). (Of course, prices may - and probably have - increased since I last stayed there, so YMMV...)
I think when I was a much younger munchkin, we were in KUL (this is the old, old Subang airport days) and we were waiting for a flight to KBR. We had been put up in a hotel room near the airport and we would be informed when there were seats available. I think we were there for less than 1.5 hours. It's all very fuzzy, but I do remember that it was a very short stay.
