HAving checked in at 5am and checked out at 8am at the auckland westin last week (thank you Qantas for a 5 hour delay) i have broken my personal record for dollars per hour of hotel room
Ie 130 NZ dollars per hour surpassing my previous best at the westin Melbourne of 80 dollars an hour

CAn anyone beat it?

And I'm not talking about the rooms you rent by the hour!

AKL (again)

QF39 (now 133) arrived AKL 30 minutes late at 2:30 am (due to daylight savings variance) - arrived at Mercure Windsor via Super shuttle 3:30 am, up at and out by 6:30am to get back to airport for my work there. from 7:30am. (Note in MEL, these times were 11:30pm, 12:30, 3:30, 4:30). Cost was NZD125 (+transfers NZD22 and NZD15)

Ridiculous! Since then I've slept at the airport in similar circumstances; freshening up at the Domestic QP.;)

Booked a room at the Hotel Kamp Helsinki earlier this year. Got upgraded to an amazing suite - huge living room, massive bathroom, personal library with about 600+ books (several over 100yrs old)...the suite even had its own name!

Only had it for one night...ended up having a massive night at a few nearby bars and clubs, and got back to the hotel around checkout time. :D

My record would be at the Hotel LKF in Hong Kong where I had the room from 5pm to 1pm+1, but only spent enough time in it for showering and 2hrs' nap prior to departing. From then on I've never bothered with getting hotel rooms for weekend overnights in HKG, especially with early departures the next day like QF30 back to MEL.

As for least time I had on a room, it'd be in AKL. Checked in at 1am at the Westin Auckland due to a delayed QF25 (see TR written in June), checked out again at 11am for flight.

SYD Novotel September 06

In 0130 (post function)
Out 0430 (to get to a/p for first flight back to MEL)

$339 well spent (not). Had a nice view of the sydney cityscape that i appreciated for about 1 minute!

Rydges Southbank BNE

checked in at about 1630, changed into penguin suit (formal atire thank you) ;), out to a customers 15th year in business function, a number of other places, staggered back through the lobby just as my driver arrived to take me to the airport at 0730 the next morning....

I think it was a nice room - I had been upgraded to a suite - oh well, I think I had a good time, my CC told me I did anyway :D

Approx 12 years ago a group of 6 of us were travelling around Thailands north.Being relatively young we believed in the Lonely Planet guides. In Chang Rai we went to their reccomended hotel-we had paid about $30 deposit for 3 rooms.I do not remember the actual name of the hotel. There were cats everywhere so we asked to look at the rooms-they had a strong odour of urine.opening the toilet lid there was about a 3 foot long worm living there. We hastily said goodbye and went around the corner to a hotel described as a soulless place-it was fantastic-we have never used Lonely planet again. The original hotel to us will always be known as The Cat's P*ss hotel.

About 30 seconds.

About six years back I would go to Perth every six weeks.

I normally checked in early (off the 6am flight from MEL) and then did appointments.

But this one time I had my meetings all day and arrived well after 6pm.

I checked in, went up to my room to discover that it was the one nearest the lift...which I could hear..and with four lifts on the go there was no way I was staying there.

So a quick call to reception to indicate that I wanted another room, but the hotel was full. So I checked out immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My best effort (!) would be around 4 hours at Hotel Richmond in ADL - one hour after checking in to freshen up, out to dinner and on for a very very boozy evening, then back for around three hours sleep in an attempt to avoid a hangover. :D

I think it was about 3 hours, if not less.

back in 2000 I had to fly to Fiji when the coup started to get all the satelitte phones working. Anyway the flight landed in Nadi atabout 1am and I think I got to the hotel at about 2am and had to be gone by about 5am to fly to Suva.. I have no idea how much the room cost the company, but at least i got a shower and a snooze!

Hmmmm....short hotel stays....

I've learnt from hard experience that unless you are actually going to be in the hotel room for a decent amount of time, then don't bother booking it, or book the absolutely cheapest room you can find. (That is, if you are booking a room and are going to be in it for about 8 hours, great. No good checking in for a 24 hour stay then only being in the room - let alone the hotel - for a mere 2 hours!)

Having said that........ AFF Gather #1. Booked into MEL Hilton OTP, a rather hasty booking and a bit exorbitant. Total time spent in hotel: about 4.5 hours, and that's an optimistic guess. Got 3000 QFF points out of it, but still a hard lesson learnt. I guess I should've gone straight back to the hotel after the dinner on Saturday night, but other things were done instead.........

I once used the hotel in KLIA (KUL). RM140 for a standard (not the cheapest) room for six hours only. Needless to say, I really didn't get enough sleep. Since I wasn't earning a wage at that time (my parents paid for this room - and they are tight), it wasn't the greatest value for money (they would only pay for 6 hours, which meant I had to check out about 4 hours before my flight out of KUL :(). In some respects, RM280 for a 12 hour layover isn't too bad if you really need a room of sorts - respectable rooms (but don't expect a view). (Of course, prices may - and probably have - increased since I last stayed there, so YMMV...)

I think when I was a much younger munchkin, we were in KUL (this is the old, old Subang airport days) and we were waiting for a flight to KBR. We had been put up in a hotel room near the airport and we would be informed when there were seats available. I think we were there for less than 1.5 hours. It's all very fuzzy, but I do remember that it was a very short stay.

10-15minutes at the Four Points Sydney.

Part of a mattress run - checked in - went to the room - took a bottle of water from the mini bar - sat down - drank water - left room keys on table - left room to never return. Blew AUD$170 but I've lost/won more gambling - depending on your perspective ;)

Took me to a nice SPG level so was worth it IMO.

No time at all once.

Have once got to a room, where someone was already occupying the room - got shuffled off to another hotel!

AFF#1 was going to be mine, also... I think I got 3 hours in

Mine record is 3 hours after a work do. The function was in an old manor house type hotel, and rather pricey (about £180 for the night).

The evening function finished in the bar after 5am, when I crawled back to my room, and promptly fell asleep on the bathroom floor for an hour. Two hours in bed then the alarm call went.:(

Novotel Twin Waters - 20 minutes in two rooms, the twin waters being infested with mossies saw us out of there pretty quicly and off up the road to the Noosa Sheraton, from very bad to very good in 20 minutes ;)

 That's nearly 40Km - you must have moved pretty quickly to do it in 20 minutes ... :p

My SYD-WLG going to Wellington Rugby Sevens this year was delayed at Sydney due to lightning....then re-catering....then off loading passengers....then missing the WLG curfew.

Got to AKL at about 4am... QF put us up near airport - I'd rung off the tarmac in SYD and booked the first AKL-SYD so was out of the hotel at 5.30 to get to the QP and have brekkie.

My shortest time in a hotel would have to be ~5 hours.

The most recent was August 2007 Embassy Suites in Tampa where I checked in just before midnight, thanks AA for leaving my luggage behind in LGA, and checked out ~5am. The room cost ~A$175. Sometimes one is better off booking a much cheaper hotel....
