what is the cheapest way to do this or do i have to just book each leg as an individual fare and search each web site?

Don't know of any cheap way to do it. Australian fares just tend to be One-way point-point fares, without any discounts or special connection abilities.

The easiest way I've found to try and do one of those journeys is through Harvey World's multi-trip travel planner:

Webjet also use the same software backend, so have a similar option.

Sometimes this doesn't work as planned. It can bring up some interesting routings for you though.

A travel agent should also be able to help... but be warned that the commision is negligible, and some may not want to perform the required work for the small amount returned...
