Some of the snacks (never mind the meals) are pretty horrible in the cardboard. What's the worst though? Haven't covered everything I suppose. Other options welcome.

I reckon the best meals go to the ones that ask for the low calorie alternative which I keep forgetting about until the next cardboard surprise is served up. :(
Still, I must admit the moist cookies are the best of a bad lot. It's just that cookies are not on the good food list and I only resort to them when I need a carbo boost of sorts.

You've forget the cheese and biscuits! Especially when you have two packets of the same biscuits in the box - one for the cheese and the other for the tomato and capsicum dip (but maybe that's just on QF Link)

The cheese and biscuits on the QFLink flights are terrible (the free glass of wine doesn't make up for it either)

Yes I forgot the cheese and biccies. Also I haven't seen the breadsticks for some time, thank heavens.
Actually that little lemon tart that comes with the 'orrible cheese twists is okay.

(I suppose whatever we get is better than what we get with Vermin or Jetstart - it's worse when you pay and get crap)

The 3 breadsticks with the red dip, now that was the worst,
The cheese sticks are ok, I had to choose the soggy roll but even that wasn't  as bad as the red dip.

I REALLY don't like the soggy coleslaw sandwiches.

With regards to the cheese, I really like those little cheese blocks.

The passionfruit biscuits are nice as well.

    Regards

    Warning - International full service???

I recently flew QF188 from Syd-Mel. Its a domestic sector but an international flight (originates in Hong Kong). You would expect better service than domestic, right? WRONG :(

It departs around 8pm and on a weeknight and at that time you would expect to get a meal 'of some kind' on a domestic flight. Yet on this flight the only food to be seen was a snack box with some apricots and a water, plus some disgusting tart thing made of parmesan cheese!!

Worst of all-they don't have a coffe and tea service on this flight - I think even Impulse (RIP) offered that for free on its flights. And I was assured by the stewards that this was the meal service Always on this flight!

What is going on - I thouhgt I paid extra to fly a "full service" airline!

Lesson learnt - next time I will fly Virign and pay for the food - apparantly it tastes very good!

davidtcohen, you obviously don't fly for the points if you want to fly vermin for the food. :?
Yep there is certainly crap meals out there - but my experience is that you're better off filling yourself up at the QP beforehand. :)
Of course, if it's an extra long flight, take a bag of goodies from the QP with you - apples, oranges, take your pick. It's luverly.

Thanks - but not all of us can lounge around in the QL beforehand (although having flown bus class on this flight, i would rather the QF lounge in Intl than Domestic)

Sadly, I don't get much out of the points. I am a Corporate travel agent and so most travel is very cheap but obviously not eligible for points accrual. And the airlines don't treat us any better for it either.

From a TA perspective Vermin may be just that to fly - but for service and ease of dealing with, QF are like the yield Nazi's and Virign always surpisingly helpful.

Still, ponts are points and so many people remained chained to their card. How crap does Qantas need to get before people will give up on it? And how many tickets can you buy with the savings you make on the airfare cost?

For work travel, usually always QF. I am sure we all have a price for personal travel. For me- I need to get a saving of more than 1.5c/point + $5 or $10 for drink/catering (depending on sector) to fly DJ. Also as a tier flyer there a benefits that really make flying on QF still quite compelling for those of us that fly enough to get there.

I hate to state it with so many of those QF staff lurkers around but I just lap up the perks the FF card gives me. Unfortunately some perks have disappeared with the customs line not having a FC/BC/FF line anymore but I really do enjoy the idea of being a gold member for life & the QP goodies.
Just the other day I was travelling MEL-AKL in Y (new company rules) & the CSM came down and gave me drinks from J. He singled me & 1 other out and made us feel like royalty for that small amount of time. I thought that was a superb bit of customer service - actually it was outstanding. :D

    Soggy Roll

Came back from Sydney on Friday (QF437 at 13:30).
they served a sort of bread roll with roast beef and coleslaw.
It was just moving from bread to mush.... another half an hour would have tipped it over the edge.

We did get a little mars bar though (really little).

A vegeterian who didn't get her meal was offered those little cheesy sticks (not much of an alternative there).

We did get tea and coffee though.

Quite frankly I have travelled on many airlines, and I dont have a problem with QF foods, in fact i think they are among the best airline foods I have had. Try travelling the american airlines and then you have reason to complain... i travel 10 months of the year and I certainly find qantas airline food among the best in the world!!!!

Hi "thatwouldbher" and welcome to the AFFF.

Like everyone QF still have a few offerings that need help though. As you rightly say, fly with the american airlines and you get delicacies such as cheese pizza in first class and a brown paper bag of ????? in coach.

    :D

Arggh! Don't remind of the "Bistro Bag" on AA! A bag of chips and a soggy roll with some sort of horse or armadillo meat! and that orange cheese!

What happened to the delectable breadsticks!

As we all know ther are airlines that serve worse things than Qantas but that doesn't make Qantas' offerings good - just less bad

I had something on a flight to Asia two weeks ago that the menu listed as an 'spinach egg tart'. 'Egg tart' is obviously flight catering lingo for a reconstituted egg hockey puck with green slime on the top. I still managed to eat it, however, and my doctor has told me I should be out of Intensive Care in a few short months...
