What is happening to Qantas award seats booked to transit through HKG?

Hi all,

First time posting a question, despite being a long time lurker, so hope I've done it right...!

We booked Qantas RTW business tickets last year, for travel August 2022 SYD - MAN via HKG with Cathay.

I understand we can't predict when travel transit through HKG will be opened up (unless anyone can - then great!), so I am asking, what is happening to anyone who has encountered this situation recently? Is Qantas providing an alternative business award seat or am I dreaming, and is the ticket just cancelled? I tried phoning Qantas and after being on hold for 2 hours, I finally spoke to someone who was unfortunately very unhelpful.

I am contemplating whether or not to try and find seats on another flight into England around those dates, but as we are a family of 3, availability is tough which is why I booked this so early. Although I fear if I change the tickets ( if I can even find anything) that the world will have a whole new set of unpredictable flight difficulties by then!

I would appreciate any insight.

Thanks

If cathay cancels their flights qantas may not be able to offer you any alternative. The rest of the ticket should in theory survive.

I would be looking now for options, perhaps consider splitting the party into 2, with 2 on one set of flights and the other on a separate flight. You can always try and snag a third seat on the same itinerary as the other two sometime between now and august.
