Lunch in Nimes yesterday. We had planned to have a leisurely lunch but hadn't known that a bull festival was taking place and the whole town was bursting at the Sean's - so ----

A close friend had a flat in Nimes which she has inconsiderately sold. She often said that there weren't a lot of great restaurants there but Les Halles is great - Enjoy

We were only there on a day (9 hours) trip from Arles but it did look like an interesting place. There seems to have been a lot of rebuilding in the 18th/19th Centuries to go along with the more recent works

We had the 17€ 'lunch special' at one of the myriad of small restaurants inside the walls of Carcassonne Castle. We had just finished walking the ramparts in 33C heat so a casoulet was not wanted by either of us.

Greystone Cellar Door, Waipara, NZ. King’s Birthday holiday. Have been popping in here for a few years to buy their Chardonnay, our favourite. Then they put in a top notch restaurant a couple of years ago 👍
Oysters with a jalapeño dressing. Fallow deer osso bucco, smoked beetroot, apple and a side of the best spuds you’ll find.

And for something very different. We are in a typical cheap but clean hotel opposite the Toulouse Gare just for the night. The restaurants around here didn't look very special. Most were drink hangouts for the early 20's crowd. My wife had a look online and found and "African" restaurant that turned out to be a great choice. It seems to be pretty authentic going by the 95% African clientle.

A Passion fruit Virgin Mojito for her. Mojito's are their signature drink.

Mafa Beef for me. It is beef in a rich peanut sauce with rice and fried plantains. The server warned me it was spicy but it was no spicier than a mild satay. A chilli sambal was also supplied and that was very hot

Flame grilled chicken with plantains and cassava couscous (attieke) and mustard. It was served with a tomato and onion salad that was very similar to what you would have with an Indian meal. However the onion was far sweeter than we are used to.

The meals were both very tasty. My beef was chewy but with plenty of flavour. The waiter was really happy when we told him how much we had enjoyed it all
