What I ate today - the food thread

Glad you had a good meal at the Fox and Hounds, Denali. We stayed there in April last year and I had one of the most ordinary meals I've ever had. It was meant to be rice with a spicy/chilli sauce. It was without any exageration, a bowl of boiled white rice with a sweet chilli sauce poured over the top. I'm sure it was from a $1 bottle that you can buy in any supermarket........

I can't remember what my better half had, but she didn't have any complaints, the beer was good as well and the room was alright as well, so the stay wasn't a complete fiasco!

Looks like we're going to be there again tonight as Gabrielles by the Bay is booked out for a conference until Friday, so its either drive 10+klms to Nubenna or the Fox again. Might try the pork tonight.

Lots of people were ordering the lamb shank yesterday and I made a comment to hubby about 2 plates being licked clean by the guests. I dont eat lamb so wont get to try it but there were lots of people hoeing into it.

The garlic bread was interesting. It was a freshly baked bread and a side of garlic butter - so basically a deconstructed garlic bread that I had to put together myself ;)

I stayed there a few years ago. Hands down the creepiest place I've ever stayed at (especially to come back to after doing the Port Arthur ghost tour).

Only had some cheese and oysters there as we had stopped for a late lunch of scallop pies on the way.

Forequarter pork chop last night with steamed broccoli. Wife cooked pork to perfection and still juicy. Add lemon and salt.

Not easy to get forequarter pork in Coles/Woolworths in Brisbane. Need to go to specialist butchers which are out of the way.

Quick lunch before a Seminar this afternoon - found Phuc at 140 Melbourne Street, South Brisbane and went for the healthy options - Prawn & Pork rolls as well as Lemongrass Beef

Much thicker and hotter sauce than my local Vietnamese near work, but it livened up my mouth

We tried both Eataly places in New York and both were winners. Straight forward Italian dishes for lunch. We went to the one at Flat Iron first and then the one at World Trade Westfield next.
An Eataly is opening in Los Angeles at Century City in the fall and is going to open in more places in 2018.

Some of the goodies we've been enjoying in Hobart this week. Sorry, I'm not a big seafood eater, don't like oysters.

Wallaby burger that husband had after hiking for a few hours around Russell Falls.

Mures lower deck. The marinated fish was the winner. Hubby bought some of the marinate to take home.

Cascade brewery, Stout pie and the onion gravy had Stout as well. I've been loving the pies here.

And if you are driving to, from Port Arthur, stop here for a very yummy pie! Quite a few flavours to enjoy.

There's also one in Boston

Blackcat - get a Uber or Taxi up to E116th St and visit Taco Mix - have the taco al pastor. This is the locals' place.

Rosa Mexicana does awesome tableside guacamole and frozen pomegranate margarita.

But best lunch deal around at Bouley. Lunch tasting menu is $59 (plus usual tax and service etc) - 5 courses but gets to 8 with cleanser, mini course and petit fours. Beautiful food, an entire cart of bread etc. down in TriBeCa.

Unfortunately we're long gone from Nyc and heading to Chicago today.

Delicious Japanese food tonight

A lovely dinner in Black Rock at Cerberus Beach House with the Moderators team and Admin last night. Pity we didn't have the daytime view across the Bay. Great atmosphere and some interesting discussions

Beautifully cooked and went well with Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

Superb seafood platter in Auckland's y-Not restaurant.

Pic dominated by 5 huge mussels but plenty of prawns and scallops behind the sauces dish and bread. Not bad for $30NZ with a glass (and a half courtesy of lovely waitress) of a nice Marlborough pinot noir, considering the place is on Princes Wharf.

It won't let me post photos :(

But the answer to what did I eat today is waaay too much! It included apple pie from Willie Smith in the Huon Valley and a fantastic meal at The Old Wharf in Hobart.
