Was just wondering....whAt happens when you give your boarding pass to the FA at the gate.

When they take it and scan it....what do they see on their screen?.....what are they looking for?

sometimes I've had FA really look at it and then greet me by name, and other times it seems to be just a quick scan, passed back to you, and move on

Love to know

TQ

Ir really depends on a lot of factors.

Mainly they look for the green light; sometimes they do more.

If all goes well from what I've seen, it will show your name and seat number, and that your status has changed to boarded....

Sometimes they also check to make sure you're in the right boarding group. I was boarding in Townsville recently and only the back rows had been called. People who presented boarding passes for forward seats were asked to wait until their rows were called (except premium, gold, business, or guests requiring assistance).

Ummm.... yeah, I tried to board my return flight the other day, whilst boarding my outgoing flight.

Woops, wrong BP!

I've had a similar experience. It reassured me that it is difficult to board the wrong plane at a major Australian airport. (I've read stories from the USA of two flights boarding through the same gate at the same time, and people getting onto the wrong plane!)

The screen gives them the number of pax who have boarded, yet to board and their basic reservation details and a brief summary of the flight. This differs slightly from airline to airline.

Staff are trained to manually scan the boarding pass as well to see if they have the corresponding flight number. Many a time the check in / boarding system has accepted a boarding pass for the wrong flight with pax going on involuntary mystery flights. :p

The gate reader should reject a boarding pass that is not for the actual flight that is leaving at that gate. I'm sure most pax can tell the difference between one beep to acknowledge a boarding pass correctly scanned versus the much angrier sounding double beep that is rejecting the pax at that time so F/A's should definitely be able to.

I think the issues with pax boarding wrong flights are more with the human's intervention or perhaps lack of when the boarding pass is rejected.
