What do Qantas crew know about you?

Here is an interesting experience I had this week related to this thread.

Was on a short BNE-SYD flight in Y sitting in a D seat. Flight was full. During the flight the main cabin crew (not sure if they are CSMs on Domestic?) came to me and knelt down next to me. I expected it would be the usual 'thanks for your loyalty' pleasantries (as I'm a P1). Boy was I in for a surprise.

She asked 'whats your name?'

I told her my name and she said 'OK its not you'.

Then she spoke to the guy next to me in the E seat...'Are you Mr. Smith?' (not the actual name she used)

"Yes" he said

'It is your birthday tomorrow isn't it?'

'Er, Yes' he said, somewhat surprised.

'I have a bottle of red up in Business. It's opened but most of it is left. I can give it to you on your way out if you like'

'Oh, thanks!'

Then she walked off and he turned to me looking pretty pleased...'Score!' he said.

Go figure!

That's pretty classic considering I flew on my birthday this year. Something I've managed to avoid for a number of years. It was like the crew went out of their way to ignore me.

Still, I just gave VA more money as a result.

They don't really know you, sometime they read my name on the boarding pass. Big achievement ? Yes when they remember the name

Flew on my birthday recently. Nothing mentioned and not that I care.

It might have even been the same flight. I was in 6D or 5D. Crew doing the drinks/meal service had a sheet of paper/cardboard on tray with about 6-8 hand written names on each side and the seat numbers next to name. As far as I could tell each person on the list was addressed by name when served.

My name wasn't on the list. I can't be that important.

Flew J LAX-BNE last Thursday, the crew were great - had obviously read the ipad, first question was "I see you prefer Michael, is that correct?"

One CSM briefly showed me the iPad last year, it's a great resource for little useful bits of information to make the service feel continuous - which is how we see flying (a series of linked events) where as the cabin crew see us as one pax for a specific flight.

I've asked to see my iPad entry on a couple of flights; there was just the basic info in there - no birthday, no wine preference, not even the details that are in my QFF profile! Name, seat and QFF status - that was about it. One CSM enthused about how much info there was in there (and showed me a couple of other pax's entries to illustrate, when he found my cupboard to be empty, so to speak  ) whereas another bemoaned the detail and opined that he'd like to go in and delete most of it, saying personal details "cluttered" things. On a recent 747 SYD-YVR, there was no iPad and we had peering at the paper manifest again. A real retro flight :) .

I think its a good innovation - if they use it consistently and do 'recognise' their revenue-generating passengers; however if its not used consistently, you feel like the pax who was the only one who didn't get offered the extra refill when the FA came up the aisle. It was especially evident on a flight I took 6 months ago, with a work colleague. We are both WP and roughly the same QF profile. Colleague got gushed over, couldn't do enough for him. I simply got what I paid for. Colleague pi**ed himself during and for about a week later, which was the hard part.

Flying to LHR on my birthday soon...they can keep the wine but an upgrade or shadow would be nice...
I expect to get absolutely nothing extra and am sure I will not be disappointed.

First time in a while that they seem to have checked the iPad for my flight today. Welcomed by first name, as per preference. Mentioned an impending special event. Received a tip for said special event.

Those special events can be impeding to your bank balance  :D. Good to see them being used proactively

Thanks for the spelling correction.

Fortunately, only going to impede my salary package. Love tax free celebrations. I think it was stark contrast to last year where the CSM seemed to studiously avoid eye contact for the entire flight.

On my last birthday I received happy birthday greetings from Marco Polo and Kris Flyer but not from QFF or Velocity. On my most recent online checkin QF showed me as a QFF member since 2013 and had my daughters birthday date and passport number in those fields in the APIS so my assessment is that they know nothing much about me at all!

Flew paid J transcon this week and nothing special... I am fairy certain that QF don't really care about whatever customer segment I am in.

One of the FAs recognised me upon boarding, but she had been relegated to Y, so I didn't see her on the flight home :(

I missed a good opportunity to find out the details that can added to the pax' profile and when/who can add them. Have made this my next mission to accomplish. Flying on my birthday this week...not holding my breath but would be nice to have something outside of the ordinary since it's going to be a very long day at work that day.
