What cheeses me off

WCMO when I can't find out where to find an old council map (NSW ) from the 19th century.

Local historical government aren't answering so to speak and NSW state library told me to go to the council .

Try NSW Archives,

County & parish maps guide

County maps
There are 141 counties in New South Wales. The maps show the division of counties into parishes, major physical features and large portions with their numbers. County maps usually have a scale of 4 miles to an inch. County maps are the main historical reference map for the Western Division, except for proclaimed towns and villages that have their own maps.

And, to actually search:

Thank you :) . It is very interesting to see history of older suburbs
They were counties and parishes.

Cessnock Council proposing a 39.9% increase in Council rates
WCMO

Combination of valuation increase and per unit increase?

Our rates in Surf Coast in Vic actually decreased this year as property prices came off the boil after the covid induced boom (with a bit of a lag) council valuations decreased after a few hefty increases.

Hmmmm, scans hundreds of photos a few years ago.

Can I find them, not on your nellie, so it will keep me occupied again for a while..... :)

OK, who can tell me where these were taken?

I don't even like going to someone's house for dinner and not taking a bottle of wine and/or some food
Yes. When we were in KL during CNY, I was lucky to find some really good Wine shops during the holiday which meant many shops closed. Penfolds seem to be a dominant brand there, so I got some non Penfold brands.

Malaysians are still into wine.

So pretend royals, Harry and Megan, plan to grace the antipodean peasants with their presence later in the year.

Who is paying for this grace? Not them I assume.

No one asked if my taxes should be spent on this joyous event.
They are not royals anymore...yeah I know one thinks she is the Queen, but she aint. I expect some charity, one of theirs perhaps, is paying for the visit. The carbon emmitted from the private Gulfstream jet will be offset by buying a few trees to plant. Maybe Elton John is helping out here: he has before.

My first thought too. Surely not. They are just a couple now, seeking privacy by doing promotional tours.

People leaving their pets behind while getting out of the ME
Have seen variants of this in my FB feed, with people lobbying for special circumstance waivers to allow pets into Australia - seem to not understand why we have quarantine.

If you are a temporary ex-pat best not to accumulate pets since whilst living abroad as you know even if bought back legally at end of your stint poor dog / cat will be months in isolation.

Surely if you have been living there you would be able to ask a local friend to take on your pet (even if you have to pay for its food/vet bills from a far) or find a shelter.

A speaker at a lecture who should know better:

* ignores the microphone

* Sides full of tiny text “I'm not got to read all this” … and the proceeds to do so

* goes the wrong way with his slides and doesn’t notice and speaks to the wrong one

* keeps speaking to the wrong slides in spite of keeping looking at the screen.

* far, far too much content. He knows the length of time he has, and ‘miscalculates’ by 30%. I can’t leave because I’m an organiser.
