What cheeses me off

Some of the worst coffees I have consumed were in South America. I accept what is served locally. When you get a great coffee you rejoice. Not always in Australia.
Coffee culture in South America is quite new, really. The port of Santos in Brazil, where a lot of coffee was exported..... is a great example of that. Check out the museum there at the old exchange if you're interested.

I guess that emphasises an interesting thing: in some countries or places where coffee is predominant and a source for the countries that have crafted a particular "culture" from coffee, the preparations of coffee can be quite simple and perhaps not that pleasant.

I remember going for an Ethiopian / Eritrean meal one time at a colleague's friend's place. After a filing and delicious traditional meal, the coffee was brought out. Very simple - coffee beans were ground and placed in a kettle, water is added and then the kettle is boiled over a fire. Left to brew a bit, then poured out, grounds and all. Served with popcorn; optionally butter added to the coffee. The idea was to appreciate the complexity of the coffee beans, but it's not a shade on the depth or punch of an espresso.

WCMO is that Europeans “can’t” make a large flat white.

Me: A large flat white please.
Them: I am sorry we can only do medium flat whites.
Me: May I have a large latte with no foam then?
Them: Of course, here you are.

Breathe Jessica. Breathe.
In Italy it used to be called caffe americano con latte. Large weak coffee with added milk.

So they want me to eat 90% less beef. They want to control the number of trips I take a year. They want to tell me how I should be a parent. They want me to own nothing and be happy about it.

LOL. Conspiracies? Not when they are out in the open.

Hello I’m Martine and I’m a coffee addict. I have never been (coffee) sober.
So…to cope when traveling to less coffee addicted places I do a few things.
I DIY - in hotels at breakfast - I ask the staff for a double shot espresso (triple if needed) + jug of hot milk and make it to my liking.
There is usually a roasters in most places in Europe - I search the website and go there or where they supply their beans.
I always say ‘extra’ shot not strong - the latter often being confused with dishwater. If they still give me dishwater I go up and ask for a shot to add
If I see flat white on the menu it may mean they at least have a coffee range. If they look like a deer in headlights if I ask for one - move on if there are options

I should go with the flow when I travel - and I usually do - but to me coffee is sacred

Edit - apologies for being slightly off topic. I recognise that bad coffee is the ultimate WCMO

Coffee is as you find it.

Fortunately I'm not bound by the shackles of having anything other than hot water, drinking what is colloquially referred to as a "long black" ("double shot").

Generally I'm fine with auto machines - espresso and americano in the same cup often works.

I know it's hard (and even expensive) to get the same Australian coffees all over the world, so I'll either keep it simple, or go without. I'm not that desperate to go to powdered or weak filter.
That’s the thing… most people make instant coffee with water, and add a bit of milk. Not really comparing like with like when people complain it’s watery or not full-bodied.

If you use only milk, no water, it becomes much more drinkable.

But i only drink coffee for the caffeine, and find no enjoyment in spending $10 - half the price of a coughtail - for a 30 second drink of coffee made by a ‘barista’.

WCMO is when you make a beautiful steak sandwich for lunch by slicing up last nights leftover eye fillet onto multigrain bread + sisters home made chutney + tasty cheese + sliced tomato + cos lettuce leaves only to sit it on back corner of Mustang coz you forgot to bring keys down from upstairs so you go back and collect them and then on dog and bone when you wander back downstairs into car and drive off to work forgetting 🥪 👎

Yep said steak 🥪 is somewhere between home and work - if anybody spots it can you give me a tingle? I was so looking forward to that 🥪

Should have gone to the Lady GaGa concert at Lang Park in BNE the other day! :)

edit: CM headline suggested AC/DC fans could rip the stadium apart if this happend to them next weekend. Text now changed. :)

Was that because of the new Euro rules, or not enough counters open?

I had the misfortune to fly into Frankfurt just after 2 planes from Communist China arrived. I think it took me longer than that. Pre C.... days

There used to be a similiar thread theme on the elderly using post offices for banking selfishly holding up the queues but don’t think I have seen those posts in a while🤔
There might be backlash coming up. I see many resorting to cash soon.

I know this sounds like whinging (and it probably is whinging but I don't care) but I used the rugby club for my daughters birthday recently. They supplied some platters of food to the total of $460. They used Zero for the invoice and when I went to pay they wanted to charge me an additional $7.82 for the privilege. Why? Because they can? I need the $7.82 so I withdrew $460 from the ATM and paid the invoice at their office. I may have to start doing this more often.

We need to ensure that we are not forced in doing something we do not want. This is very important.

I ordered a maintenance batt charger online with instructions to leave package at front door, a level 30m walk along driveway from boundary. Got notificaction today it had arrived so open the front door, not there. It was of-course left in the letterbox at the street boundary. Given the not inexpensive nature of the item am I being precious expecting it to be left at the front door as instructed? Alot of letters and parcels going missing this time of year.
