What cheeses me off

Some of the worst coffees I have consumed were in South America. I accept what is served locally. When you get a great coffee you rejoice. Not always in Australia.
Coffee culture in South America is quite new, really. The port of Santos in Brazil, where a lot of coffee was exported..... is a great example of that. Check out the museum there at the old exchange if you're interested.

I guess that emphasises an interesting thing: in some countries or places where coffee is predominant and a source for the countries that have crafted a particular "culture" from coffee, the preparations of coffee can be quite simple and perhaps not that pleasant.

I remember going for an Ethiopian / Eritrean meal one time at a colleague's friend's place. After a filing and delicious traditional meal, the coffee was brought out. Very simple - coffee beans were ground and placed in a kettle, water is added and then the kettle is boiled over a fire. Left to brew a bit, then poured out, grounds and all. Served with popcorn; optionally butter added to the coffee. The idea was to appreciate the complexity of the coffee beans, but it's not a shade on the depth or punch of an espresso.

WCMO is that Europeans “can’t” make a large flat white.

Me: A large flat white please.
Them: I am sorry we can only do medium flat whites.
Me: May I have a large latte with no foam then?
Them: Of course, here you are.

Breathe Jessica. Breathe.
In Italy it used to be called caffe americano con latte. Large weak coffee with added milk.

So they want me to eat 90% less beef. They want to control the number of trips I take a year. They want to tell me how I should be a parent. They want me to own nothing and be happy about it.

LOL. Conspiracies? Not when they are out in the open.
