There’s some country … the UK maybe? …. that’s introducing a law about headlight glare. Something about having to make sure it doesn’t dazzle other road users.

We should have that here in Oz.

That’s a good start! But it’s those regular LED lights… and they’re across all makes and sizes… from luxury cars to cheaper SUVs. Get one of those behind you or coming towards you and it can be dangerous.

i meant a proper eye eavluation looking for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy etc.

With ophthalmologist? No recently and Im not sure I'll be going there again. The local aesthetic they use sends me into panic attacks.

I do have early signs of cataracts which is causing my vision to improve.

Note the blinding headlights is nothing new. As @anat0l mentions I think people do it on purpose and don't care.

I thought it'd be hard to have really blinding headlights like now decades ago when LEDs were not very common at all, unless you specifically had fog lamps or something installed. Yes, there was hi-beam, but hi-beam bulbs are pretty much matched by the common LED these days.

Anesthetic? The optometrist I have been going to annually for two decades bulk bills the eye test, peripheral test and retinal imaging (macular). No anesthetic needed.

I have had this and had it last Thursday. Not an anaesthetic at all but drops to widen the corneas. And yes. It canes for about two minutes. With cataract surgery they give you three rounds. An ophthalmologist requires it not an optometrist.
