What cheeses me off

Also cars are a lot taller at the front compared to the past which would make a difference.
That too!

There’s some country … the UK maybe? …. that’s introducing a law about headlight glare. Something about having to make sure it doesn’t dazzle other road users.

We should have that here in Oz.

The Australian Design Regs have a limit on the height of headlights.

We do!

But it is rarely enforced. A recent update to the various states' Road Rules specifically prohibits the use of fog lights when the circumstances don't require them.

That’s a good start! But it’s those regular LED lights… and they’re across all makes and sizes… from luxury cars to cheaper SUVs. Get one of those behind you or coming towards you and it can be dangerous.

i meant a proper eye eavluation looking for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy etc.
With ophthalmologist? No recently and Im not sure I'll be going there again. The local aesthetic they use sends me into panic attacks.

I do have early signs of cataracts which is causing my vision to improve.

Note the blinding headlights is nothing new. As @anat0l mentions I think people do it on purpose and don't care.
I thought it'd be hard to have really blinding headlights like now decades ago when LEDs were not very common at all, unless you specifically had fog lamps or something installed. Yes, there was hi-beam, but hi-beam bulbs are pretty much matched by the common LED these days.

Anesthetic? The optometrist I have been going to annually for two decades bulk bills the eye test, peripheral test and retinal imaging (macular). No anesthetic needed.

I have had this and had it last Thursday. Not an anaesthetic at all but drops to widen the corneas. And yes. It canes for about two minutes. With cataract surgery they give you three rounds. An ophthalmologist requires it not an optometrist.

I do regular checkups with optometrist but unless I am mistaken @drron was referring to ophthalmologist? Anyway, anesthetic or eye drops or whatever it's called I'm not risking another severe panic attack.

I don't know what people have got but maybe some people drive with high beams all the time which is annoying.

P.S. I do ask wife when I see blinding headlights and she confirms my experience.

It's not necessarily people deliberately driving on high beam. Any freeway at night there's always a vehicle somewhere behind with its two headlights pointing in wildly different directions, one of which is invariably aimed into my mirror. In Europe a car like that would be regarded as unroadworthy and immediately taken off the road the next time it passed a police car, but over here no-one seems to care.

Its been a while since I spend a weekend in our city place (travelling etc) and maybe I am just getting too old ..
Lots of catch ups
WCMO
1. Cafe with alfresco area - literally - and I mean literally - every man (person) and his dog + yummy mummy prams. Obstructing all the pathways - dogs yelping constantly but we just have to wear it.
2. I am on a bench seat which covers one wall and opp me are chairs with each small table for two. We are four pax so me and friend on one side (bench and others on chairs opp) as it should be. Sweaty active wear clothed DYKWIA couple arrive. Plan to sit at the table for two next to me. But of course they are so important they have to squeeze together on the bench(!) so I am sandwiched due to his progressive manspreading. Then each calls someone and facetimes on speaker
W the actual F?

I am glad I live coastal now so have less pax to interact

What happened to manners?

Slightly the reverse here @MARTINE but I hear you!
We live in a coastal town and that behaviour creeps in Grand Final weekend and blooms from now on (Cup Day Long weekend) until pretty much Labour Day Long weekend in March.
The 6/52 from mid December to Australia Day is crazy loco - and the Shire in their "wisdom" have commenced reconstruction works on the Pier, shutting off the main car park 🤦‍♀️

Feel your pain my friend. I have acreage so not walking distance to beach (but can see it and less than 10 mins drive).
People said to us we were mad not to purchase a beach adjacent property. We said ‘If we can walk to the beach so does everybody else!’

You forget the cycles all lined up against the windows etc and the Mamils lounging around resting after their Sunday morning rides with coffees in hand.

So this sign cmo. Not only because it exists but some numpty thinks it's clever to paste it over necessary information.

The fish along the main beaches in SA have pretty much been killed off thanks to the algal bloom. Although politically it's just 'the bloom' and the words toxic are not spoken off despite the fact it's toxic to all gill breathing wildlife. Many species died early on - rays, squid and most fish. The last few weeks it's the leather jackets turn. Every day along all SA metro beaches there are teams of council workers picking up the dead fish. We even have an app telling us which beaches have been cleaned up that day.

The notice for our beach. It was cleaned at 7.30am today.

Yesterday was a stunning day. You can see that it's stunning (30c) but completely deserted. We live at the beach and could see there were NO boats out there It's normally packed on the weekend. But there's no fish. The many tourist spots on Yorke Peninsula (that are on the east side) have been devastated. Fishing industries have been closed down for months now. Our other place faces west on Yorkers and we have been spared.

But maybe there is hope. Walking along the jetty we could see thousands of fingerlings. Maybe nature is starting to repair. Normally these babies are at risk from larger predators. But they are all dead. This summer is pretty much over for the industry but maybe next year.

I’ve seen that. Two w⚓s sitting together both phones on speakers.

Sitting at the bus stop some kid had his phone on speaker and I said politely that’s kind of annoying do you have headphones. He said is that bothering you and no I don’t have headphones and just changed it to watch something else so it was annoying so I just went and sat elsewhere.

There is an increase in people thinking it’s appropriate for everybody to share their phone conversation or whatever they’re watching on their phones in public
